I tend to listen to alot of radio. I have noticed a trend which I find somewhat worrying. Maybe it just me so I will put this out there. This is not a real situation, but illustrates some reporting going on.
A Mr Ali (what ever) a muslim killed x people.
What does it matter what religion the guy is. He's a nutter, an individual. Do we say today a church of christ person killed X people. No we don't why are we now bringing religion into a crime as well.
Why do we say some nationalities by their religion rather than the country. Never got that either??
just questions lol
I guess in just the same way as twenty years ago it would have been a dirty commie who did it.
Whoever is the enemy "du jour".
Of course it has some validity, in that the reason behind the killing is often the religion or the political cause behind it. If a Muslim kills someone on a street corner for a few bucks, it should be irrelevant. But if he blows up a bus full of innocent people, it doesn't validate what he did, but it states why he did it.
But if he blows up a bus full of innocent people, it doesn't validate what he did, but it states why he did it.
Does it? Is it part of the Muslim religion to blow up busloads of innocent people? Do they all do it?
Surely unless he states that he did it because he is a muslim and he did it in the name of his religion, mentioning his religion merely suggests that it was the nutter's reason for his actions?
/and -some might say- fuels the fire of prejudice and religious intolerance

True. And even if they say they are doing it in the name of Islam, that doesn't mean that is the real motivation.
An example would be secular Palestinian terror groups (such as the PLO) who commit terror acts for nationalist ideological reasons rather than religious.
Unfortunately, even if the media makes the distinction, ordinary people don't

What radio are you listening to. Right wing American talk? I wonder cos Ilisten to radio 4, 7 and 3 and they never make that kind of statement.
Maybe you've tuned into a propaganda station unwittingly.
Why are all the victims labelled "innocent"? Innocent of what?
Why are all the victims labelled "innocent"? Innocent of what?
Innocent of being muslims perhaps?
well if you were guilty, you wouldn't be a victim, right? You'd be an insurgent or something ;)
Innocent as in "not the enemy".
As in Al Qaeda's attack on US soil being against the US government but it killed thousands of normal everyday Joes, and a few Alis too.
Annie hard to get radio 3 and 4 etc, and our IT department does not let people stream radio. Band width and all that lol.
I do tend to listen to radio from both sides of the spectrum, yea then can find the balance so to speak lol.
As for the other side of the arguement we had the IRA. We never Kept saying Catholic' s done the Bombing and the same went for the INA.
Have you tried your local PBS station, everyone is always telling me PBS is full of liberals, which I interpret as not full of propaganda. Our local one, 88.5 KTEH, I think, we have 2 with similar call letters, is reasonable, but we have to stream that thru the computer. Bloody mountain in the way or something. Oh, and there's NPR, which i regret to admit, we also stream, we have very bad reception here.
Foothills they're called. evil
I'm confused, I assume that radio 3 & 4 are BBC, so how do you receive them if you don't stream them?
You only get them by streaming. Tend to listen to radio at work and IT don't like it lol

I stream all the time at work - footyball matches, BBC stuff, old UK radio stations etc.
Then again, I am IT
the reporter doesnt usually say the religion of the perpetrator of he crime cus he/she usually doesnt know and its irrevelant . there must have been some reason the religion was mentioned that connected it with the crime .
what was the whole sound bite you heard not just the few words you posted here ???
