Would you treat your kid like that ??

Thats just disturbing. people are ignorant of whats going on around them too often.
How many people actually notice what is happening to others on a ride?

And who said that is his mother!
It seems to me that site attracts the worst internet voyeurs. Who actually enjoys watching these sort of videos?

(don't worry -that's not a link to a nasty clip but to a story about one that was on the beeb site yesterday.)
I agree. When I looked at the clip JohnA posted, I didn't think much of it, and noticed there were other videos which also seemed to be in poor taste - I didn't watch them.

I am sure there have always been those who take pleasure in being cruel and I am sure they are pleased to ahve a willing audience. However the audience is almost as bad imo.
Video's in poor taste are what keep the internet going- well that and pornography.
I dont agree that this perticular video is in bad taste , it shows unconcern and indiferance of a perant to her childs wlfare , if you had witnessed something like this and had a camera ready would you have snapped it for evidence or would you have just ignored it and carried on with your life ??

Just the fact that the publishing of the incident would give the perant enought embarrisment that the chances of anything like that ever happening again is highly unlikely ..

rough justice maybe, a little unfair maybe , a little intrusive, yes .... but certianly not in bad taste IMO .

and no apology for presuming it is a parent

You know, these rides do have cameras attached to them and take photographs at certain places. Your ignorance in presuming that it is a parent that has taken this AND that they were laughing at the incident is just beyond words. this young man looks old enough to be out on a school trip.

Stuff like this doesn't keep the internet going - it just clogs it up for those who enjoy the better things in life.

The kid (can't tell if it's a boy or girl) calls the adult "Janice" so if not a parent (probably not) then a 'guardian' although that would be a misnomer, as shown here.

I would think that was pretty uncomfortable for the poor kid although I doubt he/she was actually in any danger, other than the two shoulder belts starting to garrot him/her.

YouTube is very hit and miss and yes, a lot of it is laughing at the (often great) misfortune of others. It does get a lot of eyeballs though and commands a great deal of venture capital at this time - however, it's probably not making a great deal of profit from its Google AdSense ads yet as the bandwidth consumed by all these viewers is probably running at around $1 million a month.

I watch some stuff on it but usually where someone has copied a clip from 'The Daily Show' or 'The Colbert Report' there. I would be pretty mortified to see something like the cruelty to animals videos that were mentioned in the news report link.

There was a clip up there a few months ago of a local high school's "Fight Club" which was also very shocking and disturbing, as girls a few miles away from my village kicked the s**t out of each other.
SO I ASSUMMED it was a perant it could be a sister , auntie , school teacher etc there is no way of knowing , and step children( another assumption ) are known to call the mother by the first name , so what ?

I made the assumption to it being a mother to make a point and ask the question would you treat your kid the same ?

this contining nit picking is getting to be annoying usually shows the nit picker doesnt really have a lot to say just likes to run their month .

If you disagree with my assumption which is as reasonable as yours ,
just post as you did alternative views and assumptions to mine , no need to be rude ,i dont think the assumption that it could be the mother sitting there is no more a ignorant statement that yours that it COULD be *somebody else * .

I dont know who took the pics , and the person i assumed was mother and laughing was sitting beside the chilld not a unseen person/s as you seem to imply .

many a time assumptions are used in posts sometimes to solicit reponse which is what a *chat room * is for.
sorry all the posts are **not about you ***
According to the original poster on YouTube, the video was taken from "Australia's Funniest Home Videos". You can hear the audience laughing at it in parts.
