this drive's me nuts lol.
It appears that not only do they want my tax money, but they then want to send stuff home with the kids to make you buy something you don't want or like, then take it to work to get more money etc etc. I think its a cheek really
So change it.
 James wanted your address so I could send you his fundraising application for you to send money back to his school for the football team. A minimum of $25!
Goose, I totally know what you mean but refuse to be a part of it. Yes, I will allow him to go to the neighbours with the football stuff because locally it is worth it. The football team get discounts from local vendors and they put all their names on a swipe card. this card can be sold for $10 each and then the person why bought the card can then go to each local vendor and get their discount. A good way to raise money. They also do sponsorships for so many laps run etc., which is no different to what we did at school. Katy's kickline team are trying to raise money for them to all go to Florida with the band and are doing car washes. The girls work very hard and do a good job for the money, which is a lot harder than what the football team have to work for their fundraising.
But I refuse to have anything to do with selling cakes and cookies etc. that they insist the younger kids sell each year. this school district gets a heck of a lot of money from the high taxes we pay and doesn't need more money for the new computers yet again!
Kids came door to door collecting for the football team the other day but I don't support door to door anything.
Anyway, schools here are so underfunded, it's not even funny. The reason is because anti-taxes folks in the state got a measure put on a few years back to limit the amount that property taxes could be raised to some miniscule percentage each year. They also, cleverly I suppose, made it so that if the measure passed, it would require something like 2/3 of registered voters to actually vote on it, in order to change it at any time.
Basically we pay bugger all property taxes but have very crap schools. Is the American Way or just Oregon getting hoodwinked?
This is a big issue in Nh, where the legislature and the Supreme Court are locked in a perpetual battle of school funding.
Basically the "Live Free or Die" State takes the view that Government should be so small as to consist solely of the State Police and that all children should be home schooled.
Many towns have ordinaces and policies that effectively prohibit the building of family homes and require that condo developments are for "over 55 communities" only.
Of course, as all these over 55s get older and need care, there will be no one to provide said care.
Also, the whole 'tax free New Hampshire' thing is crap too. We don't have sales tax or income tax, but we do have property taxes, meals taxes, vehicle excise and 'fees' for most things. All of these are regressive taxation.
But we need to pay all those troopers to keep us under control.
Our school runs a huge fieldtrip program that costs on average $60 per kid per year. The PTO fundraises such that each class gets $60 per child regardless of the incomes of the families. This is a huge amount of money, but we have very little difficulty raising it because we do it the simple way. We say "please donate as much as you can at the start of the year, then we won't have to send home any awful fundraisers". It works lol

I like that. Perhaps it could be adopted in other fields as well.
You'll probably get even less funds from government if that low-life from Amway gets to be your next govenor
I expect to recieve my first fundraiser of the year today, but at least I have only two schools to deal with this year and one has yet to hold a fundraiser as far as I know.
I only occasionally let my kids go around to the neighbors with fund raisers because most of them have kids in the same schools. When I do, it's to people who do not have kids in that school and if I think they would be interested in the product - for instance my neighbour with four teenage boys in the house was very pleased with the cookie dough fundraiser!
I hate the competitve element of it though - the kids should not be offered prizes for selling the most. My own kids accept that we don't do them anyway.
I should suggest to the PTO that they ask for donations in lieu of at least one of their fundraisers, to see what happens.
I refused to let my kids do most of thefundraisers that was sent home.I just made them take it back the next day.
I don't think that young kids should be selling door to door. Begging for money for something they have no say in where the money is going.
I totally agree with Kentgirl on the push for prizes, that are worth nothing more than a few dollars anyway.
Schools round here have so much money that they can afford to build new sport standiums that a pro club would be happy to have, let alone paying principles 200K a year.
different budgets......
Just Say No. mrgreen
If only it was that easy monster lol.....
Just got something in the post today about some study training and yes it comes at another cost. Ummmm maybe I am just getting old but I thought various studying methods was all part of schooling lol or are they different here lol
If only it was that easy monster lol.....
It is, trust me....
