Hey there, I am Canadian and my parents were both born in Britain and immigrated to Canada. I was born in 1986. I have found out that I automatically qualify for my citizenship in Britain but after that, the details are fuzzy.

Do I need to register for my citizenship or can I just apply for a passport?

If needing to register, what form do I use??? There are so many!

The Life in the UK test, will I have to go to England BEFORE applying in order to write that, or can I do it at the time of my interview?

Can the interview be done from a Canadian Consulate or do I need to go to England?

Also confirming that I would need to go to England for the swearing in ceremony after I am approved?

Wow, so many questions, thank you so much!

Katie
Try here Try applying for a pasport, if it works, fine, if not, they'll tell you what you need to do.
My Grandson who was born in Ottawa got his British passport last year at the High Comission in Ottawa.
His father was born in the UK.
He had to supply proof of his Dads citizenship. ( Birth Cert.

That site londonsquare posted gives you all the info including forms to download.
It took my Grandson 2 weeks to get his passport.
Do you know if your grandson had to be in Britain while he applied for the passport?

Looking at the passport application it seems that you need sign confirming that you are 'in the country of application' at that time of signing and issuance.

??

As far as I am aware, The country of application means just that. If you are applying to the British Embassy in Canada, you need to be in Canada. etc.

Just like your parents it can all be done by mail. You don't have to go to the UK or the High Commission.
Because we live in Ottawa it was much quicker. He went to the HC to deliver the form and pick up the passport. That saves the courier fee that the HC charges for sending out.

Download the form it will tell you exactly what you need in the way of documents.

Thanks everyone for your help!
