Is it horse shoe up or down. It's like a black cat is bad luck or is it good luck????
I have been told 2 things with horse shoe's.
1- You have it facing up so that the luck does not fall out of it.
2- You need to having it facing down so that the devil cannot sit in it and bring you bad luck.
So what is it. Any Horsie people out there???
It was given to a bride and groom for luck so it was up, to stop the luck pouring out.
I thought the up or down applied to boiled eggs. In some parts of the UK, children get into trouble for turning the empty shell over, because they are "tipping a sailor out of the lifeboat"; in other places, you must turn it upside down to "tip the witch out of her coracle".
Maybe they cross-pollinated.
Horseshoe up, but I've heard both versions too - so the best course of action is not to believe in superstition in the first place!
Black cat lucky in Kent but unlucky in Massachusetts. Not sure what that means, so I got a black dog instead!

Cover both eventualities. I say have it kind of sideways but pointing slightly upwards so that the luck stays in and so that it's still might uncomfortable for old lucifer to sit in.
Could you put it ends up and then put an up-turned thumb-tack in it, or does Lucifer like that sort of thing?

Poor black cats in the states are viewed as unlucky.
I noticed at Boulder Humane society the most common colour of cat there was black, as if they were less desirable to adopt. Or perhaps there are just more black cats than any other kind born? I think a black cat would make a good familiar. wink
our stray black cat has gone missing, so keep an eye out for him.
