I have become so fed up witrh the Democrats wishy washy approach that seems to rely on the Republicans losing, that I fired off the following text, today. I should note that they have a Vision scroll down a little more than half the screen to see the vision:

"To: The Democratic National Committee

I am worried that you are going to blow the next election, just as you did the last one. We cannot stand more time with the Republicans in control of the White House and both houses of Congress. You have to let the candidates relax and be themselves, it doesn’t matter if we don’t agree with them 100%. We will vote for an honest candidate, even if we don’t totally agree with them. Hell! I’d vote for a candidate with whom, I completely disagree, if I think they’re showing me the real person, and the opposition isn’t.

You must play to win. You must not play to avoid losing; it is the surest way to lose. You proved this with Al Gore and with John Kerry. Poor Al Gore was known for his interest in the ecology but he was forbidden to mention it. It looked as though he was hiding it and made him look sneaky. Kerry looked to be guarding so hard against making a mistake that he looked rigid.

You must keep it simple; you must have headlines, with backup if a discussion is indicated. The “Vision” is still too wordy and, in places, illogical. You have to stop cramming stuff in.

1. We will be Honest and Open
We will end the corrupt practices supported by the Republicans.
We will tell the truth to all.
2. Real Security.
We will work to make people physically secure.
We will work to make people economically secure.
3. Energy Independence.
We will promote the uses of renewable energy and domestic power resources.
4. Economic Prosperity
We will promote jobs and good wages for all Americans.
5. Healthcare for all
We will fight to provide medical security for all Americans.
We will allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices.
6. Retirement Security
We will strive to provide dignified retirement for all.
We will protect the pensions of seniors.

I think that is still too long but it’s better. You must avoid the elaboration unless there is follow up discussion

You must brand the Republicans.

“Republicans work only for the rich; we work for everyone else.”
I know the PC police won’t like that, but most of the rich are not going to vote for you anyway. And those that do vote for you will understand.

“Republicans give no-bid contracts to their pals, and you pay the tab.”

“Republicans support corrupt lobbying practices, Remember Abramoff.”

You must have layers, punchy leads; slightly more detailed follow up for light discussion and detailed explanation for heavy discussion. It would be better if they too were in sound bite form, too.

The Iraq situation. You should propose a solution based on the “Malaya Model” Areas of Iraq will be made secure and Iraqis trained to police and administer certain preset areas. As this is completed, an adjacent area is compounded and police and administrators trained, some taken from the previous place and so on until the Iraqi “standup” is in place. This process will require less American troops to stay long term. There seems to have been a reluctance to arm the Iraqi military a satisfactory degree. One suspects that the US army thinks the weapons might be turned on them. However, it must be done.

I am not a member of the Democratic Party. My political self is best described as fiscal conservative, social moderate with a healthy dose of populism. The wealth of the country does not belong to just the rich."

I liked that. I fear it may be lost on those who make the decisions but a great attempt nonetheless.

I felt better for reading it, at least.
Ta, I was totally pissed off.

You never know what they look at though. During the Kerry campaign, I fired off suggestions and about a week later they used them. I didn'think much of it because a lot of others must have seen the same thing as I; except that I broke one of his tortured paragraphs into bullet points and made a typo with a money amount, A week later I heard the bullet points complete with mistake.
