Anybody been watching this? Its been pretty boring up today, with the only good day being the time trials when most of the Americans blew their chances of winning. And then, today. It was great to watch the American, Landis, crack up. He looked pathetic on that last climb.

My bet would be onth German, Kloden.
I presume you are not/were not a cyclist, I mean long distance. It's been very interesting, breakaways almost making it, then one making it by half an hour.

If you are just watching in the hope of seeing Americans fail, it will be boring because there aren't enough in it to keep it interesting.

I like Pereiro for the overall win

The biggest imptovement is not having more coverage of Lance Armstrong than the rest of the riders.
How funny, I am a cyclist, have done many time trials back in the Uk and actually found this tour to be one of best of the past few years. When I lived in the UK I would commute 30 miles each way to work, from bath to the other side of Bristol and could cover it (if the lights were in my favor) in a little over an hour easily.

I also cycled with the Cafe De Columbia team and became quite good friends with Raul Alcala who also rode on the 7/11 with Bob Roll.

Landis' performance in making up all that time was one of the most stellar performances of the past 20 years IMO. I'm always sad when the the event is over and the TV coverage goes away. Simply one of the nicest "background noises" once can have on during the day and allows one to avoid all the misery in the world for a few weeks.

Go FLOYD!!!
I think it was the best tour for years. To be honest, I got to hate hearing "Lance this and Lance that". I wish they would get away from nationalistic angles. I agree on Floyd's make up of the time, but Periero's make up of nearly half an hour to borrow the yellow jersey, was also world class.

I think that I didn't like Armstrong's teams, because they were geared to win only the GC, they didn't have a sprinter, and Armstrong although a good mountain man, was a GC rider. Most teams have, and support, all three types.
IF he he wins how long wlll it be before the sorry losers accuse him of taking drugs ?

He's won John...

It ended on Sunday past.

Trust me, I think the everyone in the Tour even had their breath tested...

Andrew :)

Landis' blood test showed a high level of testosterone. His backup sample will be tested for level and to see if this could be due to natural circumstances.

Unfortunately, his performance was probably enhanced.

If true, there's a term for this, a cheater.

Oh I agree, BUT, there was a similar instance a few years back where this happened and it turned out to not be a case of doping, just a natural occurence.

I do hope this is the case.

Sad huh?

Andrew

It would be a shame to sully such a remarkable turn around. While, I'll reserve judgment until all the facts are in, but it was an incredible turn around, with the critical word being incredible.

I think what pisses me off about these things is IMO, they need to wait until either it's 100% or not. Why "break news" when nothing is actually been proven just yet.

For me, I feel, that the damage has been done even if he's not guilty (which could be the case and I do hope it isn't true). If it is. Then I think the TDF is in for a rough 2007.

Approximately two weeks after at it appears he has been proven to have taken drugs.

What an irony that so many couldn't even take part because of doping suspicions (but no proof) and yet the winner turns out to have been a cheat.

I'm not clear on how synthetic testosterone would be administered, I know it can be done with a patch, but could it have been administred without his knowing? say as a rub when he was massaged?

The overall leader, as well as the stage winner, get tested, so his subsequent tests should also show these levels, because it doesn't clear from the body, that quickly.
Sounds official now - Landis has just been sacked by his team Phonak after the test was confirmed positive.

What a sad end to the competition.

Bring back Lance.....
The wierdest thing is that testosterone is a training drug. It doesn't push a one day performance.

I think, in future, they should split the sample between two labs, preferably in separate countries.
