Never have i seen such bad sportmanship in a champion games as in this world cup .

first rooney nut cracker , now zadone viciuos head but that got them both red cards .

italy won on -pc quite right to
for a world class -player one of the best even to go out ( retire )in disgrace is appalling for the worlds # 1 sport .
what is happening to our sport ? we have the hooligan fans now we have the top/cream of the crop . rooney , zidane acting like thugs ..

words fail me ......
after englands poor performace and exit from the competition and now this discracfull act has ruined my whole interest in this event ... 2/3 dedicated weeks to end like this
I was utterly shocked at Zidane. Just miffed.

I can't imagine what sort of goading the italian did to make Zidane act that way.

Anyhoo, best team won in my opinion.
I don't know what the fuss is about, if Zidane had meant it, he'd have done it proper and grabbed the shirtfront, pulled his man to him as he nutted him in the face, as it was, it was just a friendly poke in the chest.

And there is no way that the Italians deserved to win, they were worn out halfway through the second half.

I've never seen such a one sided world cup final. France should have won easily. Apart from the game against Germany, Italy were mediocre for the whole tournament.

At least it made the thousands of Italians in North America happy.

I doubt if it made too many US/Canada converts to the sport. They like big scoring games with lots of razzle dazzle. Football is boring.
I wouldn't say it was very friendly. The force of the headbutt knocked him down. Whoever says the Italian took a dive wasn't watching.

Zidane's an idiot, and should have been stripped of the tournament MVP award for that shameless act.

FIFA need to start getting serious. Before the tournament they said diving would be yellow carded. I don't remember a single card for a dive, and I watched probably 70% of the action. Now they are rewarding a player who acted like a thug and possibly LOST his team the title.
I thought Zidane was an idiot too and said so at the time - you would think a player of that stature, age and experience could handle just about anything, especially in the World Cup Final but apparently not.

Shocking conclusion to what could have been a fairy-tale career ending. Instead, average Italy get to crow about how great they are for the next couple of weeks - until their big clubs get relegated one or two divisions and then dismembered as big names exercise their contractual rights to 'Bosmans', in the previously unthought of eventuality of relegation.

There were some. The funny thing is that the bookings for diving actually seemed like fouls!

Millions of NA's watch golf and nothing could be more boring than that.

Maybe we should make each goal worth 7 points.

Careful Keith. Your presence on the footy threads are gonna give you a Grinch That Stole Football name.

Not seen much baseball then, have you?

I wasn't trying to say that Zidane actually made a friendly gesture, what he did was stupid, and very wrong. I was reacting to commentators referring to it as as though it was the most vicious thing he could have done, I saw at least two cases during the World Cup matches where a boot went in on the blind side.

When I was growing up, you grabbed the man's clothing, preferably his tie, but his lapels or shirt would do, you snapped him towards you so his face was coming in like a football, and you headed him in the face, preferably on the bridge of the nose. That was vicious, and very effective. It became peculiar when you both tried it simultaneously.
I copied this from another forum, on the Zidane issue

"BBC News at 10 enlisted an Italian lipreader, it was something about his parents dieing a slow and horrible death (ZZ's mother is ill) followed by f you"

If I had to choose one local sport to go out and watch it would be baseball. I suppose it has two things going for it that made cricket ( local only) my choice of sport, its a summer game and relaxing to watch. We have a cricket league in Ottawa. They play on the Governor Generals grounds. click cricket

Not to keen on the rowdy crowds that attend football.
