I want to send my nephew some stuff to help him get through his time there. And, quite honestly I have no idea what they have access to and what is scarce. He's 22 and a bit of lad, and for the life of me can't come up with any other than, nudey mags, beer and fags. Two of which probably aren’t allowed in a muslin country.
So any ideas would help. I don't think I can send him a calling card as I'm in Canada.
Ok, but it wasn't any help so ?
I sent my brother some funny books that were popular in UK while he was in Iraq and I know he got several 'Red Cross' parcels from other members of my family.
There's a link from that site MacZippster posted above that will allow you to buy a box of treats to send out to military, at BFPO addresses - something like that would be nice, assuming it can make it out there and surive the temperatures, at least until delivery.
Thanks but I don't think crisps and sweets are that much fun for a 22 year old but thanks anyway.
I am going to send him a PSP with a bunch of games . Hopeufullly it'll arrive in one piece.

Yeah that should be good. I know a lot of the Americans took their Xboxes over and were able to play networked games together but not sure the Brits were able to do same.
My brother said they had plenty of DVD players and movies so people were probably sending them too.
Actually, when I was in the Army, it was great getting a parcel of food and snacks from back home and most lads would share with the rest of their mates - stuff we take for granted is not always readily available or affordable and I was only up in northern England!

Dunno, as Pilgrim said, maybe a quiet relax with some good chocolate might be preferable to the inclusive tension that PSP's bring...!
You might want to peek at the Amex BBS as no doubt there's a bunch of people who'll know someone who's in the Forces...
Andrew :)
I would agree with Pilgrim and McZippy on those treats that we take for granted. When my cousin was working in Korea (not the same situation as your nephew but still miles away from home), he loved being able to open a package up and finding his favourite flavour of crisps and chocolate. We used to also send the sweets you could buy by the 1/4lb.
What I wouldn't give for a bonbon right now. mmmmm yummy grin
I'm sure whatever you send, moo, it will be greatly appreciated )
what about Viz or something along those lines. But I would check to see if its allowed in the country first.
How about a bullet-proof vest and some decent boots?
Or a nice chatty letter which also asks him what he would most like/needs. Maybe it's chocolate. Maybe it's porn. Maybe it's new underwear and soft bogroll. Maybe it's a decent pair of nail clippers and some fishnet stockings. Sometimes getting what you really want is much more fun than an unexpected package. Sometimes what you really want is a little hard for anyone to guess.
If you want your first communique to contain something surprising to raise a smile, raid the dollar store. Send pre-soaped bubble wands, whoopee cushions, pullback cars...anything silly.
But most of all write. Especially if you can be as witty, eloquent and amusing on paper as you can be on screen ;)
