I never actually watched Freddie Trueman play but as a young cricket fan I was always in awe of 'fiery Freddie'. When I got the chance I'd listen to Trueman or watch him on TV during lunch or tea and etc.... I think Trueman was one of those sports characters who transcended his sport and caught the imagination of the public. My last memory of Trueman was in 'The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy' where he had a bit part!! wink

Trueman died on Saturday from lung cancer.

Not a great cricket fan but know who he was and that means something .

another great sports personality has left us .
I used to detour on my way home from school and work and stop in at Lords, especially for test matches, I did see Freddie and Statham a couple of times.
I have good memories of fast bowlers, with Lindwall and Miller for Australia and of the West indian spinners, Ramadhin and Valentine, who had a calypso written about them in the second test in 1950. The Calypso But freddie was spectacular, not a "Gent", but spectacular.
