Found out at last, as most of us predicted.

Memo to English F.A.

Please, please, please, please, please.....if you hire another manager who relies on long balls pumped to a single forward and then playing for penalties........try having a squad with more than two players capable of scoring from penalty kicks.

Only bright point was Lennon. Rest was pants.

And what John said...
It's just a game John. lol

Keith,

Go back to the sidelines with the half-time oranges and the note from matron.....

Let him mourn.....

cry cry cry

Can someone send Rooney to anger management school...........and keep him there.
What a waste evil
Those effing P*****e are cheaters.

Who in their right mind would let an argie ref an England game. That Blatter bloke hates us.

I hope they have to sell Ronaldo. He's not welcome in England anymore.
What John said.

And how was that a red card??? If the ref had blown a free kick 5 seconds earlier when he had two monkeys on his back, maybe he wouldn't have had a chance of stamping on his nuts when he was having trouble keeping his feet!

Maybe that was the problem. If he was any of those Portuguese fairies he would have rolled to the ground before he was even touched.

Why do we still play the game with the rest of the world? Can't we run off and make our own rules? Rooney was penalised for standing up and trying to play.

Apart from that lapse, the referee was superb. Didn't call a single Portuguese dive.

Any doubts about Hargreaves' ability as an England player have to be erased after that performance. Absolutely brilliant, all over the pitch.

Here we come 2010.

1) No Eriksson (hopefully McClaren with a good 4 years of work with a young squad)
2) It will be MILD - we're playing in WINTER. The average high temp in Jo'burg and Cape Town in summer is the mid 60s F.
3) Players like Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney will have 4 more years of experience.
4) Walcott will have blossomed into the forward he promises to be and Sven ignored.
5) Beckham will be past it. We were much better after he went off.

Terry was outstanding in defence. As was everyone else. We played Portugal out of their usual 20 yard game with the 2 lines of D, forcing them to 30 yard efforts.

The only mistake in this game was not having another forward on the bench to bring on when Rooney was sent off. We should have gone for the jugular but still holding our 2 line D when we gave up the ball. Why the F wasn't Walcott played in the group games so he was not completely overwhelmed by bringing him on for this sub?

And Carragher, who only came on to take the penalty kick, should be kicked himself for taking that bloody penalty too early! IDIOT! How can another team MISS (i.e. not "have saved") two penalties and still win????

I know it's no consolation for losing ANOTHER penalty shootout. But in four years this team will be better and will have a better manager.

Agree with most of WHAT you say mate except that red card *it was earned* Rooney stamped on his nuts, iirrispective of what should have been called before the incident rooney is supposed to be a professional and that sort of action is NEVER condoned .we cant have players taken cheap shots because they dont agree with the refs ruling , its not a hockey match its a gentlemens sport .

dont know why lampard was stil starting after the first game ?,over the course of the turnament he has missed more scoring chances than micheal jackson has had nose surgery .
and he missed a penalty kick that would surly have put the pressure on portugal and might have made for a differant result .

best and worse player on the team both provided courtesy of CHELSEA ,

worst player lampart
best player terry .

Just got home from the pub...
fuck.
Rooney.....
words fail.

John, couldn't have put it better myself - and I had to restrain my foul mouth when Phil was telling me over the phone about the penalties because I was on a train!

Bollocks. I agree that the ref should have called a foul about 5 seconds before as Rooney got clonked. Crouch did much better than Rooney when he came on. IMO, he should have started. It seemed like Portugal were playing for penalties, they didn't have a decent shot on goal. The England defence was excellent.

Well at least Brazil lost. It was some consolation seeing Ronaldo and Ronaldinho et al. go out... twisted

I'll be rooting for France now. Although I hate them, I hate the rest of the teams even more.... grin

for those spend there youth playing in muddy fields and wishing they could be pele .
for those who wait long hours to get in to see the game .
for those who faithfully support thier team and feel shame and embarrishment when their favourtie players let them down .

for these and many others spread across the world in many countrys from all walks of life old and young male and female i have not mentioned footballl is NOT just a game
its a religion ........

But when you have lived half your life trying to survive in the frozen wastelands of North America perspective can take on weird twists. )

But for the rest of us in more temperate climates football is more important than religion.

I did note that a Canadian had to show them how to score from a penalty.
