Half time .
Looks like the US might be going home tomorrow .
bad passing, stupid fouls , mistakes and a questionable penalty on the US the score sits at USA 1 GHANA 2 .
They can play better then this reminds me of there bad showing againt the czech republic in the first game .
....
Sad, it will be a shame because they are fighting such apathy at home, they just don't have the guns, I think they have played as well as they can in the circumstances.
bollocks sad Arena needs to go. There are much better players in the U.S. than those he played. His tactics were way off too - I mean chasing a win and he plays a 4-5-1??? roll

Exactly my thoughts mate he was playing defernce when he was losing .. Fucking retard .
What Adeshell said.
Arena out. He should maybe go back to college soccer.
USA should have and could have done better but good luck to Ghana. I suspect the rest of the world were rooting for them anyway.
The US needs a Hiddink to take them up a level. They should qualify from the group stage with the talent pool they have. Unfortunately Arena is tired of it or has got too conservative in his old age.

Actually Arena was god like when he was manager of DC United they one 3 championships with him at the helm and havnt quite been the same since he left to manage the national side .
he was very much in touch with his players then and knew when to play and when to sit and i think he is nort so in touch with thses players aas he should be making to many dicisions on what a players DID NOT what he is capable of TODAY .. rayna should been benched and mcbride replaced with johnson much earlier .donavan didnt show up .
You can't just put all the blame on Arena. He's got to take a lot of blame but there was some very dodgy characters in the US squad. Donovan went AWOL and showed some glimpses of life, and then at the end when he had a clear run at goal and decided to pass back was just typical of how bad Donovan had become. Beasley was another who came back an drifted in and out if the game. Poor old McBride was out there chasing anything and everything but thats what you get when you play a 4-5-1 formation. Why he decided to stick to a lone striker I'll never know.
I think that after this World Cup there's going to be a turnover in players and Reyna and co will ride into the sunset!! I think the americans may have believed their own hype here and come up short. I wouldnt be suprised if Arena got some kind of coaching job in europe, maybe a manager but I wonder if he takes an assistant manager's job at a big club for the experience? Maybe Worcester City.... winkI wonder if Sven might be interested in a challenge? 8)
I think that Ghana penalty decision was just diabolical evil
I watched the game at a sports bar in the northern part of Buffalo and there were quite a lot of USA football fans there. For a sport which has such a derisive reputation in the sports media these fans were loud and were totally into the game.. roll
I agree that the penalty was a crap decision but then I think the US goal was offside. That said I am hock-a-hoot that the US is going back home. They should bugger off and stick to their own boring games and leave our game to us.

The penalty was bad, and i agree with moo on the offside, I wanted them to show it some more, he didn't look as though he was behind the ball when it was passed.
I don't agree on taking out defensive players to boost the offence against Ghana, you might get a goal but Ghana might get 2 more against a weakened defense, they were pretty dangerous until the last ten minutes.
You can't just put all the blame on Arena.

I
I tend to agree but take that gaol away and you stil have a draw and the US needed NOTHING less then a win to qualify for the next round and they played defence every game , so its mostly on Arena .
the team played 270 mins plus of football and scored one miserble goal ( the one against italy was a owngoal ) there stats are near the botton of the pile alongside teams like togo , a very poor showing for a team that was rated in the top ten favourites , and they had a easy div , no excused the players sucked and the manager sucked big time ..
Spoken by a ex Arena fan club member . .

And who picked the squad? I think there are better American players in the MLS than those he picked. He seemed to want to go for the old guard instead of giving young players a chance.
So how about Steve Nicol as the next US coach? I've been pretty impressed with the NE Revs and the players he's had up there.
How about Nicol taking his assistant at New England Revolution (Paul Mariner) to the USA job as well?
That'd be grand!
Edited to add that the clearout begins now with Reyna retiring from the international team. McBride is clearly too old to play again in a World Cup and I think Pope will retire also. Only Keller seems to entertain thoughts of playing in the next World Cup but he'll be 40 then I think so it's a long shot. He wasnt' bad this time but I feel four years is plenty of time to find a younger, hopefully better replacement.
