It seems to me that people are unable to think of films to make or stories to write for the bg screen. Everything seems to be a remake of a Classic. That goes for the music industry as well. Are the younger generation unable to come up with their own ideas?
If you're talking Hollywood, the people who buy the movies are younger now than ever before, they have little knowledge of movies and are afraid to make a money mistake. To sell them a movie you just look out several money making very recent films and attempt to sell yours buy comparing them to said movies.
Try the Independent movies list at Netflix, you'll find something there.
As to music, I have no idea. grin
its all about bums on seats these days- just look at the figures for new releases. i agree with the reccomendation for netflix, best source for indie, arthouse and foreign movies in the US.
burn hollywood, burn!! twisted

as for music, best indie browse & download, or at least one of 'em is http://www.emusic.com No major labels here, as truly "indie" as they come.
