We have to buy a new washing machine and dryer. Have been looking at the front loaders and the new top loaders without the bit in the middle. Just wondering what you are using and if its any good? I think we were looking at Kenmore and Maytag.
Cheers
We bought a front loader /and a seperate dryer that stacks on top to save space and we have been very happy with the arrangment .
the front loaders hold more and dont tangle clothing ,you have to bend down to put the washing in but that is conpensated by the fact you dont have to bend over to use the dryer .
machines can be seperated and used side by side or in the case of one of them being broken it can easily be replaced without sacrificing the other .
dont buy the all in one unit its small and made for appts and would have to be replaced completly should any it become broken .
.
the front loader is cleaner no soap build up around the door,is qiuet in operation and comparable in price to a machine with similar features .
We have a top loader Maytag. If it came to replacing it I'd get a front loader for the reasons JohnA states and the fact they use less water. Mind, as i say, i bought a Maytag, replacement may take yet another decade. grin
Ours are Whirlpool. Top loader washer, front loader dryer, pretty much bottom of the trusted brand range. They've been fine, had to have the dryer repaired once (in 5 years) but it was pretty cheap, one of the heating elements blew.
To my mind, it's one of those things you think is a big decision but isn't really. They almost all work well and perform to their price. Just get what you like/can afford/can trust the warranty on (it's almost more important where you buy it than what you buy for the first year) and don't worry.
I have both . . .the clothes are no cleaner, but a little 'roughed up'
We have the Duet front loader washer and matching dryer. We had a Maytag top loader and the front loader is way better. Whites actually come out white without additives of any sort even with our crappy well water.
Have a look at some of the consumer reviews there are loads around. At the moment we havea top loader washer and front loader dryer. Soon as these stop working we will get front loaders. Was thinking about getting a combination washer/dry. They do them here, but hard to find.

Why would you want one? Just out of curiosity? Surely their only real benefit is space saving and it's not much of a benefit given their downsides. We had one in the UK. Never again. Surely only very old houses/apartments are not built with space for separates?
a good question Monster.
I have the space as we have a laundry room, but hate taking the stuff out from one machine to another.
Just call me lazy lol
We have the Whirpool (Duet) both front loaders and are very happy with them, yes we paid a lot but in our opinion it was worth it. Also you can get the pedestals for them to stand on so you're not bending down plus they have storage in them grin
I have top loader washer and regular dryer.
When they need replacing I will get front loaders with pedestals and gas dryer.

They can only cope with half the load drying as they can washing. So you still have to unload and reload. Case closed. (Unless of course you want to wash in half loads)
I have supersized kenmores from Sears which i'm sure will last me along time. But we have front loader Fridgidaires at work and they get the towels much cleaner. If you have the dough go wilth the front loaders.
We have a top loader that came with the house.
I would like a front loader, not one of the massive ones, just something a tad bigger than a standard UK washer. The only problem is that I want one with temp controls, not just Warm/Warm, Cold/Cold, Hot/Cold like most US washers. I think Bosch do one, so when I've saved up enough money to buy 8 washers in the UK, I'll have enough to get one over here... ???

I found this one at Lowes. Seems comparable to British prices but at the higher end here. I think you can adjust the temperature.
