Hello,
So my wife and I are currently living in Rhode Island and are looking to buy our first home, however real estate prices here are extremely expensive and so we feel that moving to another state with cheaper house prices would offer us a better opportunity to enter the real estate market. Weve been thinking about Virginia, around the Roanoke and Lynchburg area and will be spending a few days there in june to check out the area etc.
We are still getting ideas as to whereabouts to relocate to etc and was just wondering if anybody had any ideas as to where they would relocate to if they had the opportunity? We want the climate to be warm (although doesnt have to be boiling!!) near some mountains and ideally near to water like a large lake or the sea. We wanna try and stay on the east coast of the USA so if anybody has any idea for areas that would be great!!

thanks in advance
carl

Well, if I was going to relocate anywhere here it would be further south to maybe Santa Monica where the sea is a lot warmer and the climate a little warmer.

In fact, everything you're looking for is here on the West Coast (good food, environment and so forth), to narrow it down further anywhere between Mendocino country and as far down as Santa Barbara/Santa Monica/San Diego.

I/we wouldn't live anywhere else in this country aside from moving back to France/Spain or Italy.

The downside would be the cost. But IMO it's worth it.

Andrew :)

Every time Maczippy posts I hear the theme for the OC...

Watch prices in Virginia, the closer you are to DC the more expensive stuff gets. I liked Virginia when I was there, and North Carolina's pretty nice too.

If you want out of the hurricane belt, the wife and I loved southern Pennsylvania. Check into employment and climate stats, but the scenery is gorgeous as it's on the north side of the mountains. Check out the area between Harrisburg and the mountains. Can't say anything for living there but it is where we would look at moving to if we could ever give up the Great Lakes.
