I just went on the web to see if I could print a coupon for dog food and this is what I found out about IAMS, I am certainly not buying food for my cat and 2 dogs (a have a new puppy) from IAMS. Warning, the video is quite shocking and a little graphic.
Has anyone heard of this before? I just don't want to sound too alarmist

I heard of similar story about animal food manufactorers and it gives me some concern problem is PETA is far from having a clean slate and even encourages violence against these types of establishments.
Has been known to facilitate folks blowing up medical research facilities killing humans as well as animals
would be nice if i could get info from a more reputable organization than PETA .
I remember this was big about 5 years ago and some of the things have been discredited, but it's been a long time since I discussed it so I don't have any links.
PETA does get into some bad things, but does that invalidate the report ? , obiously, it does not, but it does put it under suspician. I think that the big companies would sue if the accusations were untrue.
While there are some real nuts with PETA, on the whole I think they do a good job of exposing cruelty. Some of their undercover videos are enough to make you sick right in front of your puter screen. There is another woman, Ann Martin, who has written a book called "Food Pets Die For". I haven't read the book, but I have heard her speak on several radio shows and it prompted me to look into finding alternative pet food. One site I have found really useful is http//www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/ahomeo.htm - loads of info on food, health etc for pets.
I abhor animal testing of any kind though so I'm a little biased.
Personally I've never liked the way IAMS tasted.

Like I said, I don't know of this group PETA and I google IAMS for a coupon to buy dog food. We got a new puppy and it is nice to have a discount sometimes, but now I won't be buying their brand of food.
I surely didn't know about them blowing up places, that too sounds awful. Thanks for the info though, surely you have to ask around information seen on the web, anyone can write and say anything.
And as I child I do remember having eaten dog food shock but don't know the brand !
I did do a long hunt on the web and couldn't find anything that could take a more objective view, because ultimately it's the word and the video tape of this researcher against the word of the company.
I do notice that the denials of the company are not outright and they're also inconsistant.
They say things like she deliberately went to video animals being housed in the same facility (why were they there???) where different tests to the IAMS feeding studies programme were taking place and that these tests had nothing to do with IAMS etc. etc.
But then in other statements to the media they generally defend their feeding studies programme (why defend it if the video has nothing to do with it?) and retort defensively that the people who work in their labs are animal lovers and all have pets themselves (whatever that's supposed to prove!).
And there seems to be a long history of accusations, revelations and denials about the company's activities.
The fact they're operated by Procter & Gamble, a company that, shall we say, does not have an exemplary record in this area, adds to my suspicion.
Overall, my gut instinct only would tell me that the company's statements lack credibility. But that is of course opinion and speculation.
I won't watch the video so let me know if anything proves the opposite, but what's to say this video isn't of a rival product?
Iams' answers are cryptic but they're a corporation, what do you expect from them?
PETA are a couple of notches below getting the war on terrorism pointed at them, so I don't trust a word they say either. And I am very PRO-animal.

Iams admit that the activist shot the pictures in the same facility. It would seem unlikely to me that it would be for a rival company. I don't think Proctor & Gamble are so poor that they have to rent part of a facility. The experiments could have been for another Procter & Gamble product of course, which is almost as bad.
BTW, why do they always have to use beagles in these experiments? They're my favourite dogs. It breaks my heart. Now if they had been Dobermans I'd sign the order.  (I AM joking of course)
I think you've found a solution there Lee - all of us who care about this sort of thing should nominate other animals we don't like. I nominate penguins and Yorkshire Terriers. I'll drive my neighbours Yorkie to Huntingdon Labs myself.
