Firstly, define your sense of "cheap" and "cool".

Secondly, where can you buy it without going to IKEA?

Thirdly - show pictures, please!

In colonial New England, IKEA only arrived a few months ago and up until then there was nowhere that I could find cheap and cool furniture. I've found expensive and cool furniture but that doesn't count.

Currently looking for cheap and cool barstools. Found some very excellent but expensive ones online the other day.....

Now all I have to do is convince Mr "I-like-wood" Kentgirl that these are what we need in the new room!
This is a put on, right ? mrgreen
Those look like strip-club barstools.

/which is very cool
MM furniture like clothing , music , and wine is a matter of choice .
count me out on those bar stools shown , looks like you cant even lean back on them or deposit your gum temperally under the seat lol
I see them in a cool garage..or very modern house. Was that the plan? I like the blue one but the red one looks a bit tacky. How much were they if you don't mind me askin'?

This is cool:

Cheap is any furniture I don't have to sell a kidney for.

They are over $300 each - and I didn't actually buy them.... I just wanted them! I'd buy them for the shock effect not because they are anything like anything else in my house. Bar stools are not meant to blend in with the scenery, in my opinion - works of art is what they are! I have not yet found any bar stools that don't look as if they'll damage the floor as well as being "different" that I can afford. Even IKEA ones are uninspiring.

John - you park yer gum under yer own bar stools!!! lol
Can you get your hands on a welder?

Design and make your own original pieces.....it'll be a lot cheaper and you'll have something you can be (hopefully) proud of! See if your local technical college can help.

Just a thought....

I was out the other day looking for furniture. For 'cheap', I found a Sally Army store, which is really a charity shop. Of course, it was a huge place. We bought a sofa for $120 and it was clean and tidy. Some stuff there is maybe cool, if you like charity shop kitsch.

Try Craigslist. It's second hand stuff for sale but you can find some bargains on there.
I love the blue one, the red one I'd fall off, I just know, I'd lean back to drain my glass and go arse over tit. I think if you're gonna have a bar in your house, go for it, jazz it up and make it fun. I think Debs idea is a great one. Check out your local college listings. Furniture should be fun and oversized. Having said that, don't try to buy covers for oversized chairs, you can't. grin

JohnA, I'll send you some Glee gum, that don't stick nowhere, but you can use it as an eraser when you've chewed the flavor out twisted
