Hi everyone!

Me and my family are originally from a market town, east of Manchester, however after spending years of dreaming that someday we would love to emigrate to Canada, in January 2002 that dream slowly began to become reality. Hubby's job at British Aerospace was coming to an end with redundancies and we had just spent the worst 6 years of our life surrounded by yob gangs, vandalism and intimidation, so we decided we'd had enough of how life in the UK was becoming and wanted the best we could offer for our kids. After searching canadian job websites I came across a job perfect for my husband that was based in Red Deer, Alberta. Phoned the company direct to see if the job was still on offer and it was. They were very interested in where my husband had worked and told us to try and use the skilled worker application route. Downloaded the forms but try as we could, we couldn't get the points high enough to even scrape through as his job as an Aircraft Painter wasn't recognised as a skill shortage. I then found out on the website of CanadaNews (now called Emigrate Canada) that Alberta was embarking on a 2 year Provincial Nominee Program, so after consulting the company, we all agreed we'd do our bit to go down that avenue and that is the success to how we first arrived here. All in all from the beginnings of applying to arriving in Calgary July 2003 it took us 16 months.

It hasn't been plane-sailing for us though, and I won't bore everyone with our "what's and why's" but in the past 3 years we have been from Manchester to Red Deer, Red Deer to Exeter, Ontario, then back to Manchester again, then to Vancouver, then back to Manchester again and now finally back to Red Deer in August 2005. We were definitely suffering from the ping-pong factor!! Glad to say that we now know we have made the best decision ever in coming back here and are 100% settled with no intentions of moving. My hubby even got his old job back here and I work as an office temp. We've lost an obscene amount of money in our moves and we are the first to admit how wreckless we have been but our experiences have made us the better people we are now and we are more appreciative of canadian life now instead of the constant bitching of everything we did first time round.

I wanted to join this site in the hope I could share my experiences in returning back to the UK and how we couldn't wait to get back here....sorry for all of you who have returned back there and are happy but for us it was a disaster!! Our kids are so glad to be back here as they suffered at school during our time back in the UK - my son says he actually learns stuff in his classes here instead of having half an hour gone due to the teacher calming the class down!!

Anyway, that's where we are right now. If anyone would like to ask me about my experiences, please fire away....I would love to help out.
