Has anyone found any Bacon in America which is the same as British Unsmoked?
I can't seem to find ANY Unsmoked bacon at all??
I went to a Butchers and ask him for unsmoked bacon and he said that bacon wouldn't be bacon if it wasn't smoked?? (not where I come from)
I have managed to get hold of Baked Beans and Some bangers, got the tomatoes, eggs and the toast..all I need now is some unsmoked bacon for my British Breakfast.
Anyone help??
Cheers
Neil.
You should be able to get it from a good butcher, especially if they're organic. They will sell you uncured/unsmoked bacon.
If you can't find that try and find an italian deli and ask for Pancetta.
Pancetta is unsmoked bacon Italian style.
It usually comes ina roll and is sliced accordingly while you wait.
Once home simply flatten the rashers as you would any other.

I know that when I was in Connecticut I found good old fashioned back bacon at the supermarket. They called Irish bacon for some reason but it was the same as the bacon we get at home. Maybe you could ask your supermarket manager to stock it, but ask for Irish bacon.
We get Irish bacon in our Stop and Shop. And you are right, Moo, it is just like back home grin
You have just got me in the mood for a really good british breakfast because I have the bangers in the freezer too.
Our local supermarket calls it Side Bacon, thick cut. Boy, does that breakfast sound good!
Thanks everyone...I'm going to buy some Pork Belly today and see it thats any good.
Neil
Hi guys,
Well I bought some Pork Belly/Fresh Side and cooked it and it tasted like pork chops???
So I think the only way to get it is that Irish Bacon or the real thing...
ohh well
Cheers
Neil
Neil,
Irish bacon is the real thing, so is Danish if you find that.
Unlike Canadian bacon which is not at all like bacon and where the heck did the come up with that anyway?
I'm hoping tomorrow to get some good old back bacon at the British store in Freeport, if they're open.
Well they were open and I got my 4 packs of Danish back bacon and 4 Cornish pasties. razz
So I'm happy happy happy today.

Neil,
Pork Belly is by no means or any stretch of the imagination going to be like bacon. There's a whole load of curing that needs to go on...
Try Pancetta if you can't get the Irish or Danish Bacon (we can down here so it's not an issue) but Pancetta is readily available in any good quality supermarkts or Italian Deli's.
Good for you Wendl!!
