I recently dumped my home insurer and got a much lower premium with a bigger, national company.

My mortgage company who manage an escrow account for me paid both premiums as they were too big to notice that I'd written to let them know I'd cancelled one policy and started another. No big deal as they told me what to do, in order to fix the situation.

A couple of days ago, they sent me a letter asking that I return the premium they paid out to the first, cancelled policy company, so that my escrow account would be back up to where it is supposed to be. They want me to endorse the cheque to them and send it to them.

My thought is that I just saved $204 a year by switching so why should I send them what I did all the work to save, especially as all the money is mine anyway?

Do you think it would be ok to just send them the amount they paid out for the second policy and keep the difference?
