SallyAnn
There are a few canadians here so you wont be on your own ...enjoy
monstered to add name to title so she knows it's aimed at her! ;)
Hi SallyAnn, lots of folks on here are from the Great White North.
Welcome aboard!
Hi there! There are a few former Britstolians here too, so who needs that nasty old closed-down board? lol
Thanks for the welcome!
Haven't had a lot of time to browse the threads, but as I am seriously thinking of heading for the good old Canadian residency I was relieved to see so many others being given the run around by various immigration offices. Makes you feel less alone somehow! I have been watching with interest the news here locally regarding the deportation of illegals and the call to let them stay! Hmmm.. I'm wondering if I should take up construction work and just wait for the amnesty... wonder if it would be cheaper and less hassle? LOL
Today's mission is to get myself a jar of Marmite.. or as hubby calls it "Road Tar".
I was confused not so long ago when I saw the word 'marmite' on a bag of crisps.. I thought I had hit the jackpot, but of course, it was the french translation... sigh....
Hope everyone has a super weekend!
Welcome SallyAnn
Lou Dobbs read a letter from a Canadian last night. The writer said that under the new laws, Canadians will need a passport to cross the border soon, unless, of course, they fly to Mexico and just wander in with the undocum...........
/We used to call the Salvation Army, "The Sally Ann"
Hi Michael
Yes, the passport thing is ongoing here, but I think it will eventually happen. When I left NZ to come to Canada this time around (2003) I had just renewed my old NZ passport so it's good for 10 years, however I believe new passports issued will be biometric to comply with the USA. Not sure when that starts..it might already be implemented. It will be interesting to see if Canadian passports go that way should that law come into effect. Of course I am also watching what happens with British Passports too... lol... its expensive being a dual citizen let alone trying to become a Canadian resident.. lol
I STILL call the salvation army the "sally anns" ... if I ever see an ad or notice saying "Give to the Sally Anns" I like to think they would include me. grin

Greetings. I was born near Bristol myself and inherited a slight twang from my father who was Bristol raised.
I inherited a slight twang from my father.
They can do surgery for that now you know......
Really, what does it involve and will it hurt?
Hi Sally-Ann,
Greetings from Toronto. You already seem to be a hardy world traveller so I'm sure you'd fit in wherever you go (even if it is Mississauga grin )
I'm a similar age, so if you ever find an answer to your question, let me know.
Aren't we having lovely weather?
Hi Kay, Scramble, Lee... grin
Marmite is luverly! The crisp (chips) brand we like is, in French "Croustilles Cuites en Marmite" .... see how easily a marmite lover could be mislead.. lol... I believe Marmite refers to the 'kettle' and if I remember rightly, there is a kettle pic on the marmite jar. I suppose I have wayyyyy too much time on my hands!
Scramble - My Bristol family, who are still in New Zealand, still have really strong accents. I lost mine after a few years living there and had a typical Kiwi accent for many years. After travelling so much it got less and less, and since coming to Canada over the last few years it has morphed back to a softer version of the old Bristol accent. Most people now just assume I am from England, or.. for some unknown reason.... Australia! LOL
Lee - nice to meet you, 'neighbour' ! Have you gone through all the immigration process? Would be great to hear how you got on, or if, like me you are still thinking about it.... Mississauga ... voted safest city in Canada.... wink And yes Lee, the weather has been superb here lately. I'm wondering if we are in for yet another sweltering summer though? ARRGHH.. the smog.. the smog.... Luckily we are right down on the Lakeshore so we get that lake breeze but even with that last summer it was unbearable in our apartment. We finally broke down and got an air conditioning unit and it was bliss!
Hi SallyAnn, nice to meet you grin I'm just a few hundred miles down from you in Boston.
Whereabouts in NZ were you? I ask because I'm currently reading guide books, and will be going there in January to meet up with my daughter on her Gap year. It sounds like a beautiful country - but then so is Canada - I'd like to see more of that country too!
Anyhow, welcome to Britnet grin
