Ardent republican here. Down with the Monarchy is what I say. Bunch of inbred German deviants, the lot of them. The Royal Family weren't a whole lot better before that either.

/Cromwell was right
Bah! And end up like France or (gasp) the United States of America?

No thanks - I'll stay with the inbreds I think wink
It's HM not HRH...

I have always liked having a queen - I have always thought of her as a mother figure. She is about the same age as my mother would be now and I always thought she looked a bit like her, although that thought is probably a throwback from my childhood.

Anyway, I wish her well and long may the British monarchy continue.

/if Cromwell was right, we'd all be Puritans... there's a reason they went to America you know
And my sister will be 86 on Saturday.
Long live Winnie!

Exactly right, if this is an example without a monarchy, then I would go down on the Queen and her dead mother if it would help prevent it.

I always think I'm a republican sort but then I shudder at the thought of the Blairs turning Buck House into a Presidential residence.

Had Cromwell won truly then we'd all be wearing dull clothes, music would be banned etc. The Puritans were really the Taleban of the day.
Interesting message board thread i found on yahoo UK on differing views about keeping the monachy or abolishing it .

About 50 posts for those who have the time to read it all i estimated more were in favour of keeping it than against .

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIZ smile
Happy birthday Mrs.

We lived near Marble Arch when she got married and the procession went by the Arch, but I refused to go; "Her family didn't celebrate our family occasions, why should I celebrate theirs"

I'm a republican at heart, I find the assumption of superior birth offensive, I think they have a good arrangement there now. A separate, non-political head of state and an elected political head. Saves having to elect a figurehead for president. The last thing I want is a set up as here, the two offices in one person.

Again, Happy Birthday Liz.

I heard that, not counting today's mail, she had received 20,000 cards, banner day for Hallmark.

My nan will be 86 on Monday. Just imagine that. Winnie was 2 days old when little Elsie came into the world.

Long live Winnie, Elsie and the Queen.
