Hello,

My husband and I have recently moved to Vancouver, Canada and we're finding it hard to establish a social group/make friends. We've tried joining a running club and we hope over time we'll make friends through running, I've also joined our condo council in a hope that will increase our social circle.

We both work full time, unfortunately I work in a small office and most of the people either have young children so they don't socialise or they live too far away from us. We live in Downtown Vancouver and we have no children.

Is there anyone out there on this forum who lives in Vancouver?

Hope to hear from someone soon.

Thanks, Nicola
Hi Nicola,

Sorry, we don't live in Vancouver but welcome to Britnet grin

I'm sure you will find being on here a great help for settling into your new home. )
I moved to Canada almost 28 years ago and it takes a while to make friends. I think it took me around 4/5 years to actually feel "at home" here.

Hang in and don't worry if it doesn't come as fast as you thought it would. Eventually, you'll make friends, settle, and wonder why you ever missed England .....
I just moved to Vancouver (Kitts-Granville Island area) but then I spend most of my time, drinking, clubbing (Arctic Monkeys on May 27th), watching football, sailing (in the warmer weather), drinking, playing cribbage, socializing ( wink ) and of course drinking.

I haven't found it hard to make friends, I find I feel less of a foreigner here than in the States.
Warmer weather?

Yeah, right. It's the Pacific Northwest, which means cold and rainy all year round. You can keep that.

/thought there were more Britnetters in Vancouver than just Moo

Of course it doesn't have the majestic beauty of Las Vegas but in the summer it’s lovely and warm, no humidity. Gentle ocean breezes with temps around 25 to 28c.

But the rest of the year its bloody cold and wet. Brrrrrr.
