Gas at the gas station down the road today. First time I've seen it over the $3 but we have been going up in price every day for a few weeks now.

How is it around you? It wouldn't surprise me if we hit the $4 this summer.
$3.78Can ($3.43US) at our local station.
It's actually shown as 102.5c/ltr Can
$2.93, $3.03, $3.13 in Bay area today.
I think I paid $2.69 for 87 octane at the weekend. But I realize that almost a week in gas prices is a long time.

I fill up once every 10 days to 14 days dependant on what I'm doing.
I paid $2.65.
According to gasbuddy, the average was $2,75 today, and $2.72 yesterday.

Let us not forget to blame "Our George" for this gas price mess due to his Iraq fiasco.

this may be a better view of the graph:

I remember when the gas prices over here use to equate to approximately a quarter of what you paid in the UK. We have just about reached the half mark now.

When we moved here 7 1/2 years ago we were still able to get a gallon for under $1, even premium!

I just laugh at all the huge SUVs that drive around here! And all the showrooms that have the huge SUVs waiting to be sold but no buyers. They can't even give them away - well almost. There are still some people out there willing to buy them  A friend went to buy a new car and walked out with a Dodge truck because the deal was so good that even with the price of gas he is better off each month on the loan and gas put together compared to the loan on the car.

I was just in Kelowna, B.C. and gas was going for $1.10.9 per litre.
I have an accurate account of all my car costs through the use of Quicken.

I have had my 2001 Cavalier 5 years and this is what the cost/mile has been over that period.

Including all costs ( purchase, repairs, insurance, gas ) $1.30/mile
Without purchase costs. $0.30
Gas only $0.08

As you can see the cost of gas is small when compared to other car owning costs.

In US $ BTW
Sounds like profiteering going on in your neck of the woods Ben.

We have high gas prices (no refineries here, all gas trucked in from California) and are still well below $2.60.

This is really what worries me about the US economy. I understand the rising cost of gas eventually puts other costs up but I cannot understand people at work who say they cannot afford something because the cost of gas has gone up 40c in the past couple of weeks. I also understand when the cost of heating fuel goes up to double what it had been. However, it makes me wonder exactly what and how far are they driving and how can their family budget be so close to the edge?

Given these fuel efficiency figures bear in mind the EPA has to republish them all by 2007 or 8 because the testing they do does not reflect real driving conditions and overall the MPG given for most vehicles is expected to drop about 15%.

My car is about right though, the sticker says 21/28 and I get an average of 22, mostly town driving.
I drive so few miles that I can probably get away with a bigger engine in my daily driver and not notice it too much so I still look at six litre monsters for replacement time.
