In what way would you deal with Iran, knowing the government is abit underhanded and is not best friends with the west etc .
1- Do you let them get the technology and wait and see what they do with it. I mean its not like they are going to openly admit they really want a Nuc.
2- Do you act to stop them getting it. But when do you act.
This is really a catch 22 situation.
I bet lots of countries are thinking Ummmmm, see if we do get a Nuc then no one will screw with us, just look at North Korea.
So what would your plan of action be ???
catch 22 for who? usa world police, defenders of the right, sacred carriers of the chalice of life?
Iran will DO nothing, even with a nuke, they fanatical, of course. Poorly educated, debatable but likely. Are they going to launch an untested nuke on the west? No of course they bloody won't! Do they have oil.OHHHH I see a trend!
North Korea have oil, thought not. Iran have China backing it? thought not.
I'm almost rooting for the Iranians on this one, lol. Getting very sick of this country trying to impose it's law on the world! How many turned out to vote here last time? how many in Iraq...Israel.....more than 3 times the %, I think they could teach this country a thing or three!
I have to agree, I don't see how the west feels it has the right to tell Iran what to do within its own country, whether they be developing nuclear arms are building a power station. Once the west destroys every one if its nuclear weapons then they may have a bargaining chip.
Some observations
The people of Iran have long memories of being shit upon by the west, it's always easier to remember being shit upon than doing the shitting. 9/11 will be remembered, here, to the same extent as Pearl harbor, but not Nicaragua or the overthrow of Salvatore Allende.
In 1951, Dr Mossadegh was democratically elected and in 1953, was overthrown in a coup, masterminded by UK and USA intelligence, that brought back the Shah. On July 3rd 1988, USS Vincennes shot down an Iraqi commercial airliner killing 290 people. The USA then tried to lie their way out of it by saying that the aircraft was flying at low altitude, out of the lanes, toward the Vincennes. It was proven that the Vincennes was in the legitimate flight path and the plane was flying twice as high as the US claimed.
George W. primed the pump when he named the axis of evil and then attacked Iraq. North Korea and Iran went bells to the wall for a nucular deterrent. Iran has two borders with countries occupied by the USA and its foreign subordinates. What would you do?
If Iran was to agree to stop purifying uranium, do you think the Administration would believe it; even if they allowed UN inspectors to roam free, the Bush crowd would still try to find an excuse for regime change.
Every country that has obtained "the bomb" has immediately become conservative in their thinking about it's use. India and Pakistan are the latest examples that ratcheted down the retoric when they felt safe behind their deterrents.
One of the reasons for the effort to stop Iran from having the bomb is that they are a rogue nation that trains and supports terrorists, and they might give them the bomb. In my view, this is silly, no national government is going to give a bomb to terrorists, they might turn around and use it on them; as in, we trained Bin Laden when it appeared to be in our interest............
The best thing we can hope for is that the administration is forced to treat the situation with benign neglect until a new administration can engage in meaningfull negotiations.
Rant over, sorry.
But I do feel better now.
A good rant though.
I agree with much of what you wrote.
Yep, what he said, this adminsitration past and present including ours back home need a damn good spanking
Yep, what he said, this adminsitration past and present including ours back home need a damn good spanking
I don't think so, the barstewards would enjoy it
Yes, good rant Londonsquire, the nail go thit pretty square on the head there.
I think we're too busy to actually do anything about Iran right now and they know it so they picked thier timing pretty well.
Because we can't do anything about it, Israel might instead.....they did it to Iraq and Iran are just if not more threatening to thier existence than Iraq was back then.
An interesting rant London[ ]. Have you read this it popped up on one of my news sites?

Now Pat is a conservative, but Paul Krugman,of The NYT's, a staunch liberal, who I read twice a week said more or less the same in his last weeks column.
Pat is a conservative but also quite wierd, he thinks that the Reagan Era was perfect, perhaps because he was a speech writer then. There are times when his mind travels into distant outer space. He's pretty good here though.
I wonder what would happen if bush ordered a strike without congressional permission shock
Do you guys think that if the bushit orded a strike, the U.K. would be right behind this country?
Not sure - hope not. The US military is pretty stretched right now and I would think the British military are also.
A lot of sabre rattling but I just don't see how it could happen.
Still, the US draft boards are quietly getting ready so who knows?
An interesting aspect of so-called rogue nations getting nuclear capabilities is possibly being missed. I thought about this earlier in the week, Googled it and sure enough, the US security agencies are very fearful of it but it has not really got decent coverage in the media.
Anyone with an inkling of knowledge regarding nuclear weapons knows that not only do they cause massive damage, radiation and poison land and water for years but they also emit a massive electro-magnetic pulse that literally knocks out all electronics over a very wide area.
Virtaully all computers, cars, trucks, control stations for utilities, manufacturing etc. would be knocked out of action in an instant.
To achieve this, you could do it with just one bomb, detonatating it about 400 km above the United States, which would send a pulse at around the speed of light acrose the entire USA and parts of Canada and Mexico, knocking out electronics and electrical systems on the way.
Once this is achieved, the world's greatest superpower would literally be reduced to a wreck of a nation, unable to control it's people, military or retaliatory weapons.
To date, there is no defense against this sort of attack and that is why the US are so concerned with a nation they closely associate with terrorism getting this sort of technology.
That in a nutshell, is how to defeat the US and they don't like that (understandably) one bit.
Need to get training those carrier pigeons sharpish just in case.
Yeah - or just encase the entire country in a giant Faraday cage.
Some interesting variables would be that if an electronic system was turned off at the time of the pulse, it most likely would still work after the pulse had decayed. So maybe some vehicles would be ok but the problem would be that those out and about would cause massive gridlock before they were cleared. Also, if the utilities are knocked out, you've nothing to power on with so the effect is almost the same.
I've heard that the military uses some form of Faraday cage system to protect crucial systems from this type of attack but there's not much information on it, suggesting that it's not as reliable as they'd like to have you think - shades of the Patriot missile, I think.
If you think about it, how do you put power into an enclosed system like that? It's asking a bit much for it to have it's own internal power source and something like a UPS would probably be defeated by an EMP before it had time to sacrifice itself for any host connected to it.
But do you think a UPS would be defeated by a FEDEX? -)
