I don't know about you lot but there's not a day goes by now that I don't worry about earth changes and an iminant worldwide catastrophe. Is everyone on the same page as me consiously or subconsiously because I just see people burying there heads in the sand when I bring up the subject.
I think location has more to do with it than anything. When things starts sinking, floating and sliding and we're not even having an earthquake we all worry.
Mind, no one's actively trying to save the earth, they're trying to save the inhabitants of earth. The earth will do fine on it's own. We won't. wink
The main problem is you and I. We are all so used to our way of life that few are willing to give up our lifestyle.

It's only when things really are obvious that we humans take note. I can remember when we used to accept that the London fog was something that had been with us for almost a century. Then around the 40/50's they introduced severe restrictions on coal burning fires. I can remember the choking yellow haze that hit every winter.

Unfortunately getting people to give up their private cars etc won't be as easy. It's not as easy finding a fuel to replace oil. Many people believe that some alternative that allows us to keep our cars will be found.

I'm not to worried at my age though, especially as I don't expect to be needing a car in 15 years time, or less!

That's the spirit!

I don't worry about it although I acknowledge that it is happening, there is little more that I can do. I am not convinced that CO2 is the cause, it may just be a normal cycle. by far the largest part of the greenhouse gas total is water vapour.

I did see that there is enough ice on greenland to raise the sea level by 23 feet. This offended my sense of proportion so I checked the numbers, and it appears to be true.

I have more important things to worry about like where my next paycheck is coming from, bills, the usual stuff.

It depends how you approach the subject... if you're sensible I will listen.

This however will get the head in sand option:

As was pointed out in a earlier post most folks that worry about earth warming / ozne layer etc fret about what others are not doing about it and dont look to home first .

when you mentioned why do they have a large car they say i NEED one and when you ask about why they personally use a gaw mover . trimmer etc they say its CONVENIENCE electric movers are a pain to use . when you ask them why they smoke they sday * its the only pleasure i have * and so on and so on

As i say when they ( those that complain about others ) lead by example i might take the time to listen .

Reminds me of the die hard animal rights groups go around protesting about folks who eat meat then walk away in there leather shoes and drive there leather trimmed automobiles.
Not sure what as individuals we can really do. I think that part of all this is due to us humans and part is a natural cycle of things. We as a race are going to have to adapt. Hopefully my place will be abit nearer the coast lol and increases in value.
In the US this is another one of those hypocritical conflicts facing the Republicans. If you are Christian you are expected to be Republican, and vice versa. But then it's the Republicans doing their best to NOT look after the earth as we were instructed very early in the book of Genesis. It's the Democrats doing their best to restrict what we do to damage the environment further. It's where Christianity crosses the line from a personal matter to a social matter that the Republicans toss it out the window like a fag packet driving down the interstate in their 10mpg F-350.
Vegas! Where the heck did you get that picture from!!?? lol

No this is me!!

Its been proven that CO2 contributes to global warming by virtue of trapping heat in the earths atmosphere. The debate is how much humans contribute to the larger CO2 content in the atmosphere and how much is a natural cycle. One thing we can be sure of - driving a 5mpg Hummer isn't helping the problem :)

I think I do pretty much all I can do - I drive a hybrid, recycle, use energy efficient products and pressure my politicians. I'm not able to afford solar panels at the moment, but I'm working on it....

As i said most of these energy saving and environmental freindly things to do are just written about and not followed by those who fret about clobel warming ..IF FOLOWING THEM reduces somewhat there mode of living ,.
by habit most of us seperate waste from recyle products cus local set up refuse collection routs to accomadate this .

not many plant TREES if there property doest already have them ( i have 9 in a small suddivision home ) the builder supplied 2.

Many homes have the tv blaring away all day even if there is none watching it .

Gas cussling SUV"s are still the most popular car *even with high cas prices *

Car pooling is not a common practice even though it would save GAS be a great help to the environment .

public transport in underused *where it is available *

Parks are in many instances A harbour for empty coke bottles , hamburger wrapping , and generally trashed * How many perants here go around after there kids when in a public place and pick up trash ?

i find with the environment issue its the same as many of the *animal rights gruops * and i love pets ...

They are quick to shout at you and put placards in front of your face but its usually a case of do what i say( it makes me fell good ) but there is a exception for me ..

just like our politicans
Absolutely everyone will have to contribute to change the cycle, so I'm guessing a change will never work. So the population will have to be cut down. I think this is where all the natural disasters come in. I'm looking at living like Tom and Barbara!! I have started my compost heap already! grin grin
adeshell
when I said there is little I could do as an individual I was tending to lean towards that part of this is natures cycle.

We cannot change that cycle. I do not think we really understand what is really going on. After all it was not to long ago that some smart ass come up with the idea of covering the ice capes to stop them reflecting heat, therefore throwing us into an ice age.

Those articles are good and tend to be following most of them. Solar power is the way to go if it cost less to purchase and install. With all the sun we have in Texas I would look forward to saving some money lol.
