There was a program on BBC2 about this. I must confess that had discounted the rumours that surfaced after he left office. I haven't been able to find a video link for it. It seems to have been quite serious. I think he wasn't a soviet spy though, because he wasn't a "Gent" and he didn't go to Cambridge University.
