Need some recommendations, please.
We're hoping for another 60-80K miles out of it. We get severe winters. Appearance/brandname/noise (as long as it's not worse than the factory installed jobbies) not a problem.
Value for money is the key....... good grip, longevity, price are the factors
Coincidentally I just bought a new set of tires for my 5 year old Cavalier. The tires appeared to be OK, but I wanted something that would perform better in the road conditions we ( and I believe you) meet in this part of Canada.
I had been looking into it for the last 6 months and finally decided on Michelin Harmony.
Click Michelin
Sears had a sale on so I took advantage and bought the last Friday. They cost $540Can installed.
Hope it helps.
Wow - I forget some tyres last that many miles. I'm on my 3rd set of high performance tyres in five years and the car has 57,000 miles on it.
Michelin are obviously a good make. I did put new tyres on a Windstar I had several years back but I forget what make they were. Probably some no name although they did ok and lasted a while, as I recall.
What size tyre does it take?
I would vote for Michelin.
On my Honda accord I only had 2 sets of tire in over 300,000 miles and the last set where still going strong .The Honda undercarrage rusted away so it was sold to a charity for parts.
I wrote to Michelin about the great performance(Hoping to get a freebi). They wrote back and said that was normal for their Tires mrgreen

Current tyres have lasted 60K.
What size? Round.
(I'll ask the boss.......)
Don't forget the front end alignment too. Good to get it checked before you tear up some nice new Michelins! wink

My colleague has recently bought new tires too ( in fact several of them have) and has leant me his copy of the Consumer reports article from Novemeber '05.
In their rating of 30 tires Goodyear Assurance Tripletred were top. But their recommendation for best all weather tire was Michelin Hydroedge which came 5th.
(Michelin rate Hydroedge better than Harmony which came 7th in the CR test).
Looks like the Tripletreds or Hydroedge will cost me about the same ~$120 a tire.
Goodyears next best tire is Comfortred, rate 13th in CR, has poorer dry braking handling, but is the best of all in snow and ice
Discount tires most popular for our area is a BF goodrich for $93.
:???:
My last two sets have been BF Goodrich with the original set from Goodyear.
The BF Goodrich g-Force KDWS tyre was excellent but wore out a bit too quickly. The Traction T/A I have on it now are wearing well but I don't like them in the wet. Both tyres cost around $120 - $130 but Costco didn't much like putting the g-Force on and suggested the Traction.
I think Michelin Pilots are the equivalent V rated tyre for my car but $213 per tyre is pushing it, I think.
Where are you thinking of getting the tyres put on? I use Costco and they have been great. I take it back in each month to get the pressure checked and have them put more nitrogen in for free.

I had Traction T/A on my Cavalier and for the reason you stated ( poor in rain ) I decided to go for the Michelin Harmony.

Nitrogen in tires thread
What pressure are they inflating your tires too with nitrogen? I'm fairly sure it shouldn't be the standard pressure indicated by the manufacturer as this is for air (wet)
Discount Tire and Belle Tire are common here, by Brit colleagues have both gone to Discount tire after shopping around. They price both price match, Belle tire gives a discount to AAA and possibly to my Company as well.

Off-hand, I do not recall exactly but I know that they go off their own records, from the installation and ignore what the information on inside of the door says. The tyre pressure is about 5 psi out, IIRC from checking it out the first time and this is reflected in the little window sticker, reminding when they are due for their free rotation.
Honestly, I prefer the nitrogen fills to just air alone. The pressure stays up longer and the ride stays smooth, whereas before, I could tell it was time to get the pressure checked as the ride would degrade within 3 or 4 weeks. The longer-lasting tyre stuff may well be true but was not the case with the last set which lasted about 2 years (20,000 miles).
