I have a GE TruTemp XL something-or-other oven/range that came new with the house when I bought it in 2000.

The oven has just stopped working. The oven-on indicator light will come on when you turn the dial but it doesn't click on any more and there is no sound or smell of gas. The broiler inside still works and the range above still work. The oven also won't come on if you select the automatic clean option.

Has anyone experienced this before? I'm not really sure what the cause is. I rarely use the oven so it's not the end of the world but if it's a sign that the rest is about to go out, then that would be bad. I suppose I'm wondering if its worth having someone out to fix it, if I can fix it myself somehow (doubtful!) or just scrap it and get something better?
If it is anything like mine, there is a small electrical element the gets red hot to ignite the gas. The gas won't flow until the element reaches the required temperature. We had to replace this glow plug thingy for our broiler.

Can you get a look at the manual on line?

That sounds about right. I saw the term yesterday on GE's website when I did a search in the FAQ.

GE appear not to have the manual online. I did search extensively yesterday but the site is basically shepherding you towards arranging for a service call (that they get a percentage of no doubt).

Thanks for the ideas LS.

Edited to add that once I used the correct term you mentioned, I found the part most likely to be the culprit and ordered it online - should be here by the weekend so I'll work on it Saturday and should be back in action, Mrs Miggins style shortly thereafter!

You are a sharp cookie as the Russians say Pilgrim.

I'd have written "Crematoria" and put it in the Politics section.

John The Baptist maybe?
with Salome or with your spelling salami

Just got done on this and the oven works a treat now.

Kind of a late-running project and a lot more involved than I thought it would be but learned a lot about ovens from it!

Just for curiosity's sake, I looked up how much it would have cost to have a pro come round and do it and the range was $170 - $220 including the $70 part that I found online for $40 with shipping.
