Not sure if anyone has posted this on here before, but it is a good thing to know. It shows you where convicted sex offenders and other a-holes live in your neighbourhood. Tell your kids to keep away from the weirdos.

i can't remember whether i posted about this, think i did. It's different in Ca. We have a website, can't remember what it's called right now, but you just go to your zip code, it shows you a map and then flags the addresses.
You get the whole shabang. Piccy of offender, address and list of convictions.
We had a whole passle of them until the website went up. They busted a guy who has documentation of the kids he abused going back a couple of decades. One morning very early we heard the sirens and thought there was a fire. he wasn't on the map but they got him. never seen so many cops. He was on an adjacent street.
Not having kids, but knowing how kids are, I'd just point them in another direction, not say, this is a No No. Kids are curious. The forbidden is exciting. We worked it with the local kids on the fact that a man , we had one at the end of the street, who left his garden messy and his lights up year round, was probably not a nice guy.
He left anyway just after the bust. We also have this weird by law, no drugs or sex offenders within a certain distance of a school. We live within that range, yet they sneak in.
But you're right, it's a problem. Ah for the good old days when a couple of guys would just take the man out for a chat and soon he'd be packing and leaving and that was that.
We have two living right next to where I work.
At a baseball field, 485 kids from 4-12 years old. I was just making this known to my board, only 20 mins ago . . . weird
creepy - it say 969 found for our zip code in Bawlmer, thats scary.
There are 95 within the 5 zip codes that make up our city, and almost all of those were green "other" offences (not child, rape or battery). What are these "other' offenses? Flashing and making lewd comments at work or something more sinister?
There's one in our neighborhood, but I swear I have never ever seen the guy in the picture, he must be a recluse or go out heavily disguised.
Don't know. Oregon doesn't publish a public list yet but according to that site, it is coming in July of this year.
there appears to be one in the town, living on a road with a headstart school on it, according to that link.
The Maine.gov site says there are 2 over in the north end, almost a town on its own. Theres also another in the next town over thats actually closer to here.
No mention of the other one from the link.
I don't always trust these things to be right as when we lived in NH we had a neighbour whose address was listed as having a sex offender when in fact there was not. They had put in the wrong address and told her that they couldnt do anything about it.

We have one in our immediate area and his was an "other offense" His house backs up to an elementary school field (the one my daughter plays on with most of the kids in this neighbourhood) All I can think is that his "other offense" must have been something mild, he is apparently the owner of this house and surely they wouldn't let him buy a house so close to children. The mind boggles. When we bought this house we looked up another local site for this and there were supposedly no sex offenders in this area, though there was one about five miles away and his was for a more serious crime.
yes, ours overlooks the local school's playing fields too. What the betting the poor sods forgot to draw the blinds when having their early morning whatever and some nosy parents looked in while parking their car across the drive?
We have a site which covers the whole county, I look it up from time to time to see if there are any moved in near me .
There isnt the nearest known pediphile is listed as living in the old part of town ( about 3 miles from me ) who was convicted some time ago and the address is his mothers . He does not appear to live there .
Remember this is a small town this sort of thing gets around very quickly .
I'm not sure that these sites are that helpful. As Wendle pointed out, they are not always accurate - indeed in some areas law enforcement openly admit they are hopelessly inaccurate. Also the range of sexual offenses thar result in registration is very broad and only a tiny number relate to children at all and fewer still relate to predatory pedophiles.
In the UK the register is not published precisely because law enforcement finds this sort of site counterproductive - it just causes people to lie or conceal their address which means law enforcement can't find them or monitor them - which is the primary purpose of the registration scheme.
Over here, such registration is part of State law and the systems vary considerably - making comparisons very difficult. Also, someone may be convicted of an offense in one state that does not require registration, then move to a State where in does - but there is no mechanism to make them register in the second State.
My view is that such sites are pretty worthless and I certainly would not rely on such information to protect my family.

Too true. It took a couple of months for us to get an error identifying our address as the home of a William somebody or other, convicted for incest, corrected. The whole time my friends insited on calling me Billy.
My home in London is two doors away from a convicted paedophile. I learnt this when a rather sensitive letter addressed to his girlfriend was delivered to my flat by mistake. I opened it because it had my address on it even though the name was not familiar to me.
The letter basically outlined to my neighbour that if she continued her relationship with this guy - her kids would be taken into care. He had already numerous convictions (said the letter) for befriending single mothers with kids and molesting the children. Because the mans first name was mentioned in the letter - i realized who it should have gone to.
I destroyed the letter. The couple called a few days later looking for it (I assume Social Services had realized their error and told them). I claimed that I'd not seen it but they probably didn't beleive me. Though I don't really care.
I hope they have moved when I go back. I just felt sorry for her kids.
So once you know there is paedophile in your midst and what he has done - there isn't very much you can do. I can't imagine I'd have treated this chap (and his girlfriend) any differently not knowing his background. You can be nice to your neighbours but I'd have to know someone for many many years before they'd ever get to be alone with my children.
As much as I can see the good intention in a site like this, I cannot but wonder the danger of these sites.
The reason I say this, is that back home in London some guy got fingered as a child molester. His address was found out and he was beaten to death. Turned out that the guy was not even the right person.
Have no problem with people knowing a fact about a threat, but I not confident about some hot head taking things into their own hands especially after a beer or two.
ALright, I've arsed around with the site. But to be honest, I can't tell what purpose it's supposed to serve. What good does it do knowing that complete strangers in your area are registered as sex offenders? Would you have entrusted the safety of your children to them prior to finding their mugshot and address on the internet? No! Because they're complete strangers!
The only use for registration would be to look up people who who've come to know and are thinking of asking to babysit/have invited your child to their house.
But I want to know! (I hear you shout)
Why?
If the site showed no registered sex offenders in your neighborhood, would you really let your children play with less supervision than if you had scored a hit on the sex offender site?
