So I'm listening to an NPR report on President Bush's visit to an ethanol plant as part of his drive to promote ethanol use to reduce the "addiction to foreign oil."
So how come no-one else thinks it's a bit suspect that a former drunkard is promoting this stuff? I mean come one - even the NPR piece has Bush commenting that the plant "smells like a brewery."
The man has clearly fallen off the wagon.
I often use a gas station that has 10% ethanol. The one good thing in cold weather is that it acts as gas line anti-freeze.
The plant that produces the ethanol ( from corn waste) is situated in Cornwall ( Ontario) 75 miles from Ottawa. It doesn't cost any more, in fact on Wednesdays it's 2c/litre off the regular gas.

I'll bet the government is subsidising it.
At the moment it's only a small plant and works with a local independant Gas Station ( Ralph & Sons)
A larger plant is under construction and is mainly funded by local farmers. It is due to go into full production in 2007.

Here in Illinois all petrol is 10% ethanol. Got to support those corn growers.
I needed to dispose of some gasoline that I'd had for quite some time, stored in my garage.
Was suprised that no one would touch it. The waste disposal company will take motor oil so I got rid of the oil that way but had to look online for disposal of gasoline.
Most places were saying to call a state waste disposal organisation that might take it away for a fee.
In the end, I found a site that said to just put it in the car gas tank when it's low and then immediately take it to the gas station and fill it up. Supposedly the bad gas is somehow rendered less bad by the good gas and you shouldn't notice any ill effects.
Wasn't keen as I didn't want to bugger up the engine but having tried it, I can conclude that this does work and is a reasonable way of disposing of old gas.
