There is a movement going around to get the FCC to change/ regulate the way * channel packages * are marketed to the consummer .

At the present time the cable co and satallite providers offer packages that include channels that on there own would do a a swift and painful death .

would be nice if we could include what we want in the packege instead of the providers including channels they make a good profit out of and those that play to a nil ordience .

We have directv and not including ppv and premium ( your choice channels ) they offer over 100 mostly carbage and shopping channels

of the shopping channels there are doing a quick count about 10

Special interest about the same 10

sport 8

movie channels 6

And music ( just non stop music and if you include mtv ) about 40

As a matter of interest IF YOU could choose and pay for only the channels you have a interest in which ones form the extensive list below would you choice ?

i know i may have left some out , if i have left out one of your choices please include .

LETS limit it to about 20 .

not including networks or premiums

Interesting to see other posters choices -) im sure some of these channels play to themselves .

Thanks
I pay around $53 for Comcast's Digital Bronze (or whatever they call it now - the basic digital package).

Of the many channels available, I only really use

The History Channel - infrequently but more than the others
America's Movie Channel (AMC) - if I happen to sit down and nothing else is on and it's a movie I've watched before as they censor them all to death

and ESPN/ESPN2/iNDemand PPV when they show footy.

That's it - they should give me a huge refund on the amount I don't use each month so I'm all for Senator McCain's a la carte model.

Ironically, I use my cable TV setup for the digital music channels more than I actually watch TV on it. Other than not having ESPN during the World Cup, I would miss nothing else about it.

On a similar subject, I've had the same General Instruments cable box since 2002 - and that was a slight update on the one I had in 2000. It can only output picture and sound through composite cables. Does anyone have a newer digital cable box that can output through something better, like S-VHS or Component? Satellite boxes have better connections than that but I wonder if the cable company are short changing?

AMC used to be uncut and uncensored but they choose there movies very carefullly mostly upscale hollywood adventure /musicals or romance in the gone with the wind , west side story mode . so there was no need to censor . i used to watch it on a regular basis.

Now they have advertizers calling the tune and there range of choice is a little deeper , so they fog out breasts and things like that and if you listen carefully they change the sound track and insert a flip /for F**K and a shoot for S**t and any other word on george carlins list of words you must not say ......

The only channel now that shows uncut and uncensored movies other than the premium channels is FMC fox movie channel

I confess to having had DirecTV with all non-pay-per-view channels available - my house was allegedly an upstairs bedroom in my father-in-laws house. I had an attack of conscience and got rid of it months back. But even with all of those channels, all I watched was-

Food Network - lots of Anthony Bourdain, Iron Chef and Good Eats. And if I wanted to become irrationally furious I'd watch Emeril for 3 minutes. This is the channel that was probably on most.

CNN - It's addictive, but it's utter crap. I watched a solid 3 hours once of a running story about how a stroy about a plane crash wasn't true. Madness. I did prefer CNN International.

History Channel - Hitler 24/7. It gets old quick.

Comedy Channel - Daily Show was all I watched on it.

Weather Channel - I could never understand why anyone would watch it. But it is mesmerizing.

The Western Channel - I'm a sucker for a good Western. My fave movie is High Plains Drifter so I liked this channel. It was either this or AMC for good Steve McQueen or James Dean stuff.

OLN - Hilariously I watched the Professional Bull Riding religiously.

Bravo - Inside the Actor's Studio could be good. The rest of the channel was pish.

Animal Planet/Discovery - Animal cop shows rock.

BBCAmerica - At times it could be ok. Mostly not though.

Link TV - Awesome channel. Sort of like BBC 2 on a Sunday afternoon mixed with PBS Think Bright.

That's pretty much it. I will say though that I have friends who do not turn off The Church Channel or QVC. Very odd but they seem to like it.

And can someone tell me where CSPAN 3 can be found?
This is my channel line up.

High Plains Drifter is a great movie - probably my favourite cowboy movie too, although I enjoy most of them.

I'm almost done playing the video game "Gun" on my 360 and that has been a lot of fun if you are into cowboy stuff. The gunfights and stuff are fine but I liked just moseying around the plains and herding cattle.

Have to see if I get this Western Channel. Might be buried in the hundred other bits of chaff.

I have a pretty new HD cable box. It has connections for component, dvi, ethernet, usb and regular audio/video outputs.

My channel line up would be

A & E
Bravo
HGTV
Food
TLC
Discovery
SciFi
BBC America
All the HD channels

we get nbc, fox, pbs, sometimes cbs and on occasion, if the winds blowing from the right direction, abc. We watch about as much tv now as when we had cable. its still crap.
hooray fer netflix grin

I agree with you there about AMC John, when it had no commercials it was a good channel, but I disagree about the content, they show a lot of westerns and tend to go with the standard Hollywood stuff both old and fairly recent. From what Ive seen of it the channel didnt just have musicals/adventure films.

To me it isnt that big of a deal with the fogging and censoring, (well not to the point of ridiculous censorship) but I do think youre spot on with the advertisements, its just relentless on AMC

Howabout TCM? (Turner Classic Movies) that's on regular cable here and they always claim that their movies are uncut and uncensored..... :?:

"First Blood" was on AMC the other night. I watched it as it (again) as I remembered it was supposed to set just north of where I live, in southern Washington state. Quite interesting as it was a sort of Director's DVD commentary cut, with comments at the bottom of the screen about how they made it and how difficult some scenes were.

Bloody thing was made in Canada neutral

Thanks. That's what I thought for HD. I could get that for another $5 a month but not worth it at present as I don't have an HDTV yet. When I do, I'll probably defect to satellite anyway as they have Setanta.

We have a digital cable package from Adelphia (just Time Warner in disguise wink ) our digital cable receiver is a Scientific Atlanta thingy with an audio/video out on it (for da Pilgrim wink )

As a sports fan I love Fox Soccer Channel, and I also watch MSG for the Sabres games and ESPN and ESPN 2, and YES. We have the NFL Network but I can't really get into it. I like ESPN News and now we can get ESPN Deportes so I can watch some of the other Champions League games too. We dont get Setanta of course which is a pisser, and the missus wants Gol TV for coverage of Real Madrid roll

I love CBC for Hockey Night In Canada and for a lot of it's programming which I like and I also like Food Network, with Alton Brown whilst the wife loves Rachel Ray and despises The Barefoot Contessa grin My wife is a big fan of Bourdain (he's on the Travel Channel now) and I think he put the Emeril show in a perfect pespective for me. He said that the Emeril show (at 8PM) was like a crazy infomercial, with the audience cheering insanely at ingredients and cheering when Emeril said stuff like "Oh Yeah Babe" When I watch Emeril, to me at least it's like watching an infomercial like the Showtime Grill!!! I like our local PBS channel and the missus loves Project Runway on Bravo so I have to put up with Heidi Klum giving these drama queen designers their marching orders every week roll We have some HBO channels and other channels like that too which we'll watch but not that frequent.

I dont know if anyone else has this but the missus and I have an unofficial trade off, where if I'm out the missus will scan through every single MTV/VH1/Fuse channel, and if the missus is out then I'll watch various news channels/Discovery Science/Military/Time/Home & Garden and PBS stuff like Nova wink

They do a commentary thing with various flms on AMC, theyll show the film and then theyll repeat it with facts and other bits of info about the various films.
I know a lot of films are filmed in the Vancouver area. I think its mainly because it's cheaper to film around there?

I think all the channels are pretty much the same it depends on which way the wind blows as far as censorships goes ,.
i know they all say * uncut and uncensored yet I saw * romance * on one of them ( ifc i think ) a few months ago and they cut the* kelly fox eating a salami* bit out of it , hbo ifc, showtimes, etc leave cussing , breasts , full frontal nudity and violence in but when it comes to pushing the envelope with explicitness they all back out a bit .

HOORAY FOR NETFLIX they usually send me the directors cut pretty much every thing left in .

Some good movies avialable from netflix uncensored .

BROWN BUNNY .
ANATOMY OF HELL
9 SONGS
EMMANULLE IN AMERICA .
ROMANCE
BIASE - MOI

Most of them will not be shown in there entireity even on the premium channels like IFC HBO CINIMAX .

I agree, netflix are pretty cool for uncensored movies, we just watched In the Realm of the Senses which was surprisingly intact - next up Ichi the Killer! grin
