I just watched the new Oliver Twist movie last night. Anyone else seen it? Not a patch on the musical version. In fact it was quite boring and should have been brought up to date to make the characters more believable and the soundtrack was blah! Anyone any other comments??
I saw it a few days ago. I actually thought it was pretty good. I've never seen the story before as I can't stomach musicals! grin
check out the original version with alec guiness and robert newton, its fantastic! not a musical, no excuse to be a musical etc..

I absolutely agree. It has an incredible cast, and conveys the hopelessness of poverty for those trapped in it, in those days. It's an amazing movie.

Havnt seen it yet .

i have somewhere the 1948 version with anthony newley , alex guinness , and robert newton on VHS saw it many a time when i was i kid .

Cant state a opinion witout seeing it but amercan remakes of british lion classics usaully fall flat on there face this however could be the exception .

The remake looked pretty British to me. Ben Kingsley as Fagin was the only person I recognised.

Sir Ben Kingsley please. Call me Sir Ben

Funny thing about those traditional honours betowed on citizens by the queen each year some recipitants like SIR BEN insist on being called by the titles others dont give a shit .

A Knighthood is the highest honorary degree the queen can bestow on her subjects and the only one the actyally has a title the others CBE,s MBE.s and OBE,s have no title but can use the letters after there name .

some recent celebs that have recieved honours are listed below not all are known to have been rewarded .

Well........Bill Sykes was played by Jamie Foreman who was in both Layer Cake and The Football Factory recently. The old lady that took Oliver in to her house was played by Liz Smith who is Leticia Cropley in the Vicar of Dibley and was also Nana in The Royle Family. I think she is also a voice in the new Wallace and Grommit movie. Mr Brownlow was Edward Hardwicke who I always remember as Dr Watson in one of the Sherlock Holmes series that the Biography channel are always showing.

I really enjoyed this movie and much preferred it to the musical version. SIR Ben Kingsley was an excellent Fagin. It probably still isn't as good as the original black and white version but I could easily watch it again.
