Hi Guys

I am a UK citizen (from Cornwall to be precise) looking to work and live in the states for an extended period of time or, initially, 3 to 6 months. I have a degree in Archaeology and Masters in Landscape Archaeology. I have specialist training in Geographical Information Systems, Geophysical Prospection and Total Station / surveying work. I have also had digging experience abroad in Greece, as well as the usual office work.

My understanding is I would be best coming in on H-1B or H3 visa if working. I have also been told a PhD would be a good idea but I would not know where to begin regarding funding, which I would need. If I went down the education route I would find the idea of studying something fresh like Mayan culture or something Meso- American related extremely appealing. Anyway I digress.

If there is anyone working in Cultural Resource Management or any profession looking to sponsor a British graduate from Bristol University I’m your man.

I really am keen to get out of the UK and broaden my horizons. I really like the states too.

Any advice gratefully received.

All I can say is welcome to Britnet and what a refreshing change to encounter somebody who's done their research about moving here. You definitely have the right attitude to make it work. )

Re you still at university/have contacts there? When I was after PhD funding, they had tomes of potential sponsors including those willing to sponsore people to study abroad.

Good luck.
Hi

Thanks for the encouragement.

With regards to university connections I have a few friends in minesota, as well as a few other contacts, looking out for me. The trouble is though there are no garantees until sponsorship really.

i would appreciate any advice on University funding. As you are aware the US system is such a different animal. Any advice you oculd give me on that would great.

I know the Kennedy Trust and is it Knox Trust offer something UK end. This is ver competetive though

Thanks

I actually meant your British Uni, Here, they look after their own. Where did you do your first degree? Do they have a student support centre of some sort that you can still access?

Welcome to the board I wish you the best and hope you get what you want. Are you still in Bristol? I miss that place! I worked briefly at the Uni in 2000.

Good luck , let us know how you go.
