Anyone remember the 80's asian TV serial Monkey?
I used to look forward to watching it on a Friday evening on BBC2 with Piggsy, Sandy and the little wise boy (I'm not sure if he was a monk or not?) travelling across the desert and seeing Monkey flying on his cloud...... grin
The news is that Monkey has had a remake, and has been 'causing a stir' in asia. There are a few differences in this version to the original, I suppose it's more in the way of omissions like the sequence at the start where Monkey is born from a rock, that's gone roll
Anyone else used to watch Monkey and maybe The Watermargin a few years before? In the USA it'll probably be on a double bill with Iron Chef wink

Tripeetarka was the monk. Wasn't 'he' played by a girl as well? )

They were carrying on the old traditions of pantomine
Tripitaka (well the actress playing her) died in 1985! More useless info dredged up from the depths there.....
I heard that the original "Monkey!" series is back on cable TV in UK right now and they even put it on at the same time, Friday at 6 pm.
I used to know a guy that we all called "Pigsy" for his stunning resemblance to the "Monkey!" character.
About 5 years ago, a child in Dans class, had a friend who ordered the video set off the internet.
When it came it was PAL,not NTSC.
Still have one of them here as we have a multi region player, not very common amongst americans here.
Loved the show, though can't say I would go especially to see it.
I remember that show, really cheesy, but watched it every week.
Can't say i would go out of my way to watch it now though.
I used to love watching that. I think if I watched it now I'd probably think it was crap but I have fond memories of it.
WOW, monkey and the water margin that brings back memories.. grin
i wonder if he will still have the cloud complete with machine guns.. shock
or if he still keeps his fighting staff in his ear.. lol
Channel Four were running late-night repeats a couple of years ago so I watched a bunch out of interest and was very pleasantly surprised how good it still was. what was really interesting was to see a Japanese version of Chinese folk stories (something i didn't get as a ten year old) but the whole thing was so over the top and hammed up that it was really entertaining. Soundtrack music was really cool as well. For similar stories rent Tsui Harks Zu Warriors of the Magic Mountain with Sammo Hung , great stuff.
remake would be good to see!! grin

According to the article on the BBC website Monkey still has his stick in his lughole
