So, I was at the cinema last night, and saw a trailer for this little gem - http//www.the-magic-roundabout.com/ http//movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&id=1809249352&cf=info . I was thinking 'hey, I know this crowd'. I never knew they were doing a Magic Roundabout movie (to be called 'Doogal' in the US). I'm not sure why they thought they needed to change to voices to America voices here, though it may be funny with Chevy Chase and Jon Stewart in the American version among others.

Apparantly, it was released as 'The Magic Roundabout' last year in the UK. Has anyone seen it? Apparantly its to be released on the 24th Feb in the US.
I, umm, had it...lol Have deleted it from pc as I got an I/O error cos there was an error on the file and I couldn't be bothered to fix it.

It was supposed to be called Sprung! in the USA originally but is now called Doogal (Sprung The Magic Roundabout) http//www.netflix.com/MovieDisplay?movieid=70042691&trkid=90529 - I've had it in my saved list for ages on Netflix.

I've been told it's nothing like the original, but what you remember from when you were a weeny as you sat on your dad's lap as he waited for the news to come on...lol ah happy memories.....

BOING! Time for bed said Zebedee...
saw trailer for this last night on tv. odd idea. part of the charm of the original, like so much 70's telly, was the lack of music all over the place and moments of intense silence. Nigel Planer revoiced a bunch of episodes recently, was interesting.
Jon stewart?
watched Thomas the Tank engine on pbs sunday morning and was horrified to discover a complete lack of Ringo Starr! Bothered!! shock
We just today got Macdonald 'Zebedee' toys. Can't wait to see the movie. I checked on the characters online to compare and they are different but the movie looks like fun for the kids. grin
I still have my Magic Roundabout Annual from 1969!!!!!!!

Debs x shock
I have "Dougal and the Blue Cat" book as well as the old vinyl record of that story.
I remember in elementary school, making a 'Dougal' out of an empty Fairy Liquid bottle, drawing a face on the end and glueing on some threads of knitting wool for his coat!

Can you imagine youngsters doing anything like that in 2006? mrgreen
I remember the giant Dougal chasing the Goodies around

(Goodies, goodie goodie yum-yum)

'Dougal and the Blue Cat' was my first ever movie - My mum took me to Beckenham ABC.

I don't recall the plot but we did eat Matchsticks.

Blue cat (Buxton) shows up in garden, wins sympathy vote and babes all flock to him. Dougal is non-plussed and warns everyone to watch out but they all think he's jealous and ignore him.

Cat is being controlled by unseen voice and lures all the hangers-on and babes to an old factory where they are incarcerated. He then takes tests until he becomes King.

Dougal, who was not lured to factory, arrives to beat up Buxton and rescue the others. Buxton realises he was wrong, asks for forgiveness which the others give (in American version, they probably executed him).

The end.

It gets a whopping 6% on rottentomatoes.com And thats dropping, first time I looked it was 15%, then 7%. The Doogal in the picture looks very Hollywood-ized in comparison to the original. A bit of plastic surgery gone on there, methinks...
