My next door neighbor has a new baby and would like to know what kind of music do babies like - if indeed there is one type.
Any suggestions?
And no death metal please.
They like what they heard in the womb, be that death metal, brahms, vacuum cleaner or flatulence.
I've heard that classical is supposed to have the most impact on babies.
For some reason it seems to help make more connections in the brain.
Well that's the theory anyway.

I read a paper critiquing some research which drew that conclusion, pointing out that most of the babies had been played a significant amount of classical music in the womb too, and the babies who hadn't showed no difference from those played any other type of music. Damned if I can remember where it was right now.....
It also went on to link parental intelligence to type of music played which could also skew results. Bit of a kooky article, but the holes it picked in other research were sound enough. Trying to remember where I read it now.... it wasn't my field it was just something I picked up, so I didn't make a note of it (and probably wouldn't be able to find it if I did -obviously I must have been played death metal as an infant.....)
I thought that people were playing Mozart for their babies. I don't know about music but mine were fascinated with the aquarium, I heard later that babies like to follow the moving fish with their eyes and so develop their skills.
If its sleepy time music thats called for, try Brahms or Mozart, that always puts me to sleep.
(But then anything i have to think about taxes me a little and i need to rest..zzzzzzzzz)
Babies will develop their skills no matter what you do (excepting stuff like feeding them a brandy and crack cocktail and shaking them silly..... evil )
It's once they're past the baby stage that it starts to make a difference.
We played Motzart to ours when they were infants. Seemed to do the trick and get them to relax...mind you the sound of the Hoover did them. Also we put in their cot a gadget that played the sound of a heart as heard by the baby in the womb....this also seemed to relax them a bit.
They are still too young to see if this has had any significant impact on them!

How will you tell when you treated them all the same and they are diffeent individuals to start with?
;)

Are you implying that a baby will learn it's skills at the same speed, independently of stimulus?

No. If I meant that I would have said that.
