Here we go again, another generation spanning load of old rot from the bbc website. Are we really stereo-typing todays teen-somethings to this extent?
I don't know. I love vinyl but haven't bought a record since i moved here. my cd intake is going through the roof though - but still more affordable than downloading.

Anybody have any opinions? Care to start a discussion? ?
Sure, it's stereotyping, but is that wrong? Stereotyping is forming a view of a group of people based on characteristics noted in the majority of them. The majority of today's kids have no need for vinyl records and no interest in them -why should they have?
Oh i agree, its just that the article seemed to imply that they were stupid for not knowing about vinyl, and using that brush to paint the whole picture.
Oh I dunno - some of the crowd I hung around with bought oodles of vinyl. Alot of my mates were bedroom DJ's who loved nothing more than pissing off the neighbors with very VERY loud bass (the sound not the fish).
When I was a young teen I thought buying vinyl made me cool. AS I got older I realised it made me pretentious and silly. Now when I read about musicians and listeners who swear by vinyl because the sound quality is supposedly better I just don't buy it.

Yeah, but you're the next generation up now, mate. Sorry to disillusion you. This article is talking about people 10 years younger and more.....
Yeah and when I used to go out to dirty clubs in Swansea there'd be an annoying quantity of teenagers in there.

I agree. Technically, the sound of vinyl should be better but the cost of a stereo system to get those sounds is astronomical and you'd have to handle the vinyl with immaculate care.
By the way, I've got a Che T-shirt but my jeans aren't designer and I bought it from an impoverished cuban in Havana. Does that count?
Ive bought my fair share of vinyl over the years, and I suppose that eventually vinyl will be phased out. I think its the same as cassette tapes?
I wonder how long it's going to be before the CD is a thing of the past? wink
Just for the record........ wink
I bought vinyl mainly because it was the most practical format available to me (for the tracks I bought) at the time as an 'aspiring' bedroom mixing Deejay you could mess around with the tracks on the 1210s and it was easy to use and to me at least, the sound quality was good with maybe a little bit better playback quality (but not that much better) and I think that I had an average quality sound system. I like vinyl and I think it makes me nostalgic, not pretentious.
Now after saying all that I havent bought vinyl in the states so I can understand how people wouldn't know or really care about vinyl? It's a reality that vinyl is a niche market now for collectors and for djs, and it makes you wonder how long it's going to be until a significant majority of bedroom mixers and big name djs are going to be mixing exclusively on CDs instead of dubplates!! roll

Lotta big names come to Vegas with a mp3 player and mix through a laptop. No skill or artisitry required.
kind of sliding off topic here, but who cares? Saw a really cool little movie recently called Scratch, all about DJ types. Where would they be without vinyl? Really cool movie/documentary, worth a look.
It's sort of funny, I was just looking through my LPs to decide which one to use for my first attempt to burn a copy onto a CD so I can play it in the car.
