You lucky lucky bastard.

The clincher for me was that I'm now able to apply for citizenship. When I joked to a friend that I'll piss off back home to save myself the money he pointed out that the IRS in the US (unlike any other country may I add) will demand not only my wife file for taxes, but that I - a non citizen with no Constitutional protections of any kind - do the same. After I stopped ranting and swearing he clarified the conditions but still, the wife wants out anyway. She'd rather have a vacation once in a while.

These articles sort of clear it up.

Do it. Being a citizen lets you own Class 3 firearms and AOW's legally.

/got my eye on a Senbu for a Citizenship present

I believe you. I finally gave up and paid my 1997 back taxes to the IRS of $147 last year. This had been bouncing back and forth since 2001 when they found our "error". I was pissed off because the bills came in under both our names, however, neither of us resided in the US in 1997. Thoughts of moving here weren't even a twinkle in my eye then. Anyway, I can't remember anything of what happened in 1997 so I couldn't go back and nitpick but I do remember one thing, I didn't bloody well live here.

What are AOW's?

Any Other Weapons. Eccentric things like shotguns you can conceal-carry.

When I saw that I about pooped myself with joy.

Wasn't Gladstone the one who liked hookers?

I think his main hobbies were rescuing prostitutes from the streets and self flagellation.

How politicians have changed!

A modern MP is more likely to combine the two hobbies into a slighlt kinkier hobby.

What's a Senbu?

Good luck to anyone buying an automatic weapon - the Federal tax is nothing compared to the cost of buying the item (fees to dealers while they hold it, during the Federal approval stage, inflated cost of the item, due to the supply dwindling), not to mention the ammunition costs - some weapons will shoot about $100 of ammo in a couple of minutes at the most. Most owners are very dedicated or very rich.

Yeah it had that affect here too. Luckily (or unluckily as some might see it) I'm heading back in two and a half years.

How'd you wrangle that one?

My wife has an NSF grant that has just over 2 years left. So when thinking about what to do (and where to go) next she asked if I wanted to go home. I said yep.

you lucky lucky b**tard!!

we have resorted to buying a home in California, hope the price goes through the roof and then moving back with the proceeds.

/Not necessarily mine, just someone's.
