I'm looking for the year in which the TV (I think mini-series) was aired called 'The Capone Investment'. Peter Sallis played the bent plod who was eventually killed because the last thing we need on TV or anywhere else is a bent plod. Anyone remember it? Thanks
I'll have a rummage around. Welcome to Britnet! )
Don't go to no trubble or nothin Monster.
To tell the truth I was in the Peter Sallis bio web site and I remembered him in this TV production but the show wasn't there in the list of TV credits in his web site. Can I be wrong I thought. Wrongness is something I do not much suffer - but then sometimes I do.
I always took Sallis for a northcountryman (from the much-loved 'Last of the Summer Wine', I expect) - but it turns out he came from Twickenham.
I bumped into Peter Sallis once as he was leaving the Albert Hall - don't think he knew who I was though, and I doubt he would remember the incident.
hmmm it's not mentioned anywhere in Peter Sallis' filmography. Are you sure it was him? I've found reference to a book which includes information about it, but it's a British tome The Independent Television Research Guide
lol posted at the same time!

Well, I am 98.7% sure - no, I'm sure.
In the play, one of the characters rumbled what the bad cop (Peter Sallis) was up to as he sat in the passenger seat of a car with a shotgun hidden beneath a blanket on his knees. The message got to another cop who then shot in from a high vantage.
'I was sure you wouldn't believe me' said the informant afterwards. I like to check out all potential leads, said the cop, regardless of how outrageous they may seem at the time.' (or script to that effect)
The premise of the story was that Al Capone had made a huge deposit of his ill gotten gains in some UK bank (and then died) and someone has stumbled on to its whereabouts - it now being worth a fortune. Yes, it was an odd and unlikely tale.
I think that's about it.
Thanks for trying.
Oh, I am not sure if it was on ITV (Independent TV) or BBC TV - it was a long time ago - certainly before 1980, conceivably before 'Last of the Summer Wine' began, because I don't recall connecting him with that series at the time - or within the shreds of remembrance that still remain.
It's listed in that ITV reference book
that's the only reference I can find on the entire web. And now I need to go and do some work. Good luck with your quest!
Heres the IMDB page for peter sallis, you might find what you're looking for there, its pretty concise.

that's the main source I was using. It's not there.

Bugger shock
Is it possible this person was the sole viewer of 'The Capone Investment'?
Well, let's put it this way, it is no less likely than for a Tyrannosaurus Rex to come wandering down the street and stomp your neighbour's Mini into the asphalt.
Yes, but is it nevertheless POSSIBLE!
Yes, damn it! It IS possible.
Then there's the answer. As soon as we've had him killed it never happened. Another good example of lateral thinking.
Case closed!
