I had to swear an oath to the Crown when I joined the military. The certificate is at home somewhere. I forget what it said now - text is probably online somewhere.
More ominous was the signing of The Official Secrets Act on leaving the service - I didn't think I had that much contact with secret stuff.
I had to agree not to visit a communist country without getting permission, I'd been signing the official secrets act all along. They wouldn't give me a copy of the document.
I thought all government employees had to sign the official secrets act, but the clearance level was itself restricted.
This is the Canadian Oath of Allegiance.
I, _____________, do swear (declare) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors.
So help me God.
That's one of the reasons it's no real problem for true Brits to accept Canadian Citizenship.
True what? Is there a true American meal then? Would it likely be something made out of maize or some other native American staple, grown without semi-advanced agricultural techniques and leading somewhat to the slow population growth suffered by various native American tribes, independent of the genocide inflicted upon it by the invading whites?
Probably a True American Meal would be buffalo on maize.
Sounds freaking horrible.
/probably easier to swallow than any oath of allegiance too

 Probably on the list of "Theme Restaurants That Never Quite Made it".
...and what's more British than a nice Greek-Cypriot-made Doner Kebab?
Hey, I was born in the Greek part of Cyprus! Got a poblem with that?
The condo we are in the process of buying only allows US Flags to be flown, its in the CCR's.....bastards!!
Same here. I had a Union Flag flying outside and was old to take it down or face a $25 a day fine. Now I hve 2 White Ensigns in my front room windows - they are "curtains".
