Do any of you make plans for the year? Do you decide way ahead of time what you are going to complete this year? Holidays, where you are going to go, what you are planning for your house or job wise?

We normally get our holiday plans set out so hubby can book his time off but this year we are having to wait because his company was bought by an Indian company last year and things are changing regarding travel and other bits. We are hoping to go upto Canada this year, hopefully.

We want to reorganize the garden. The flowerbeds are as old as the house and really need a good sorting.

Hope this works out ok for you all. My old company in US/UK was bought up by an Indian company who promptly shipped a lot of the jobs out to India. I was very surprised to hear some of the names let go.

I usually have vague ideas about what I want to do, but I have some pretty specific things that I want to do this year

- pay off UK loan
- run a 10k race
- See more of Canada - thinking of doing cross-country train journey, Toronto to Vancouver, with a stop in the Rockies for some hiking
- Try internet dating - can't knock it until you've tried it wink

Hopefully achievable

My plans for this year:

Try not to die
Work out more
Not quit smoking

/that's about it really

We're thinking of going to Australia for Christmas.
Ben, we had the India scare last year and John's manager turned up the other weeek with a copy of this book which is supposed to be very helpful.

My Job Went to India 52 Ways to Save Your Job (Pragmatic Programmers) (Paperback)
by Chad Fowler

We got over that scare, turns out healthcare in Indian hospitals is so different the programmers can't grasp the reality of what's required. best of luck.

Plans, to buy green bananas and live long enough to eat them wink
We're doing some remodelling...the downstairs bedroom and bathroom are going to be a guest suite but we have had some serious demolition to do because of the damp so Mike put in new pressure treated floor joists last weekend and has ripped out the ceiling and one of the walls. Cost us $90 at recycling just to get rid of the old drywall! shock

Last night we booked to go back to UK for just over a week in February. I know it's not an over long visit but Lucy has to get back to school for the 24th as they are doing biography presentations and she can't miss that. At least we'll be there for her birthday so we'll spend half of it at my folks then whizz up to the outlaws for the afternoon happenings. Oh, and I shall be spending some time poking around ASDA, having my hair done, getting my teeth checked over and going out with my old workmates.

Also I would like to visit Jamaica...hopefully this year.

S'about it really!

In 2006 I will

Paint (or get painted) all the interior walls in my house.

Beautify the garden

Visit the UK and Provence in July.

Visit my daughter in New Zealand at the very end of the year.

Take some art-related classes.

Spend more time with friends.

Enjoy family time before both older kids flee the nest.

Less likely

Make better use of my gym membership wink

Lose the half stone that's crept on recently.

Find a wonderful new job....
This year I will

Finish remodeling the kitchen.

Keep my grass alive through the summer.

Put new doors on my garage.

Get a dumpster to remove all the crap in the garage and basement that has accumulated during earlier remodeling.
Have already done the first of my New Year Resolutions things;

Get new doctor in town I live in and not be scared to go. Signed Lucy up with new pediatrician.

Going to the UK in late March only for 8 days total, hope to go to London and Cornwall and spend time with parents.

Want to go to either San Francisco or Grand Canyon on short break. They have come to the top of my Must See List in North America. Haven't made arrangements yet.

Remodel icky downstairs basement bathroom (and find out what's in that bloody safe) and possibly get new vinyl doors for dining room. Paint bedroom.

thanks for the kind words Annie and Pilgrim and thank-you for the recommendation of the book, Annie :)

For us in the US it is pretty much a given that for at least the next few years we will be fine. the people in the UK, however (it was originally a UK company) may not be so lucky. The programming will be moving to India but hubby hasn't done that for a very long time now. For him the biggest difference is going to be getting a new system sorted for clients with interaction between old and new, and traveling to India which he hasn't had to do before. the problem with holidays is work is so busy taking anything more than a couple of days makes catching up difficult when he gets back! But we aren't complaining that he has too much work on, I might add ;)

Debs, I know what you mean about the recycling prices. We get charged for building materials too. Never had a bill that big though!

Sell my house and get something more suitable.

Spend the spare cash on weekends in Las Vegas and New York.

See Dix Junior.
Feb/Mar spend 4+ weeks in San Diego

June attend my grandsons University graduation

July celebrate our 53rd Wedding aniversary.

Nov celebrate my 76th birthday
I have to downsize so that I can move from a 4 bedroom house to a one bedroom and den in mid 2007. I know that I will do it several times before I get my stuff reduced sufficiently.
Getting mullered and smashing the granny out of every bird I meet.
