In 2004, my husband applied for the US diversity visa lottery (DV2006) since he was born in an eligible country, I was born in the UK. Full details are available on the link below

We just received notification that we have won and we can proceed and apply for US permanent resident (Green Card) visas. We have until September 30, 2006 to satisfy all the conditions and receive the card. Even if we do so, we don’t think we’ll be in a position to emigrate fully until early 2008.
My first question is When you finally get the Green card at the US embassy in London, how long do you have to emigrate to the US before the green card becomes invalid. I searched the web and read answers of 6 months and 12 months; hence I was wondering which was correct.
I also read online that after emigrating, you could leave the US for a maximum of 12 months and if you have advance parole, you could stay longer.
My second question is what is needed to get advance parole and how long can I stay outside the US if I have advance parole?
