In my case it was at least three months - after that I learned to live without sleep at all!
lol
My advice is once you both have the feeding and changing down to an art (ie neither parent panicking or crying along with the baby) take turns at night to allow the other parent maximum sleep.

Depends how long it takes the parents to learn not to respond to every tiny noise, and to sleep through it when it's not their turn ;)

It's Ok -they give you a receipt at the hospital so you can take them back. No warranty, though, so best to do it within a week.

I thought you couldn't send them back because they wouldn't fit!

How's the sleep going? congratulations, she is beautiful ) .
As far as sleepless nights go - they come in all shapes and sizes. And it doesn't stop just because they decide they can sleep through the night either. roll
You know, you can always tell who the new fathers are at work - they look like death with a smile on their face! grin
It does get better and you learn how to cope in your own way and what works for you. Some it is having the baby in bed with them, others it is learning to ignore the crying until you are ready to deal with it. There are no right or wrong way, just what works for you both. )
