I know nothing of MP3s so please forgive the stupid questions that follow!!

I want to buy some music for my 12, 17, 19 & 21 year-old godchildren in England. Can anyone tell me whether MP3 gift cards bought here (eg Napster) can be used in the UK? I presume they are redeemed online and that it will not make a difference - or will it? Is it possible to buy music online from the UK on a US based site? Any advice? Would $10 each be OK do you think? Is UK music more expensive than US music?

Thanks!
If this quick request had been left in the main forum, perhaps I'd have got a response. Ho hum. Too late now. Thanks for looking.
I'm pretty sure that for example, if you bought and iTunes gift card from the US that you probably will not have issues using it in the UK as you'd be accessing iTunes UK from a UK IP address, however, you couldn't access iTunes and purchase music from the UK if you're coming from a US IP address due to market restrictions (and vice versa).

I think that the gift cards would work though if purchased in the countries where the end user resides....

If it's iTunes, you're going to have massive issues. Gift cards bought on the US only work with iTunes.com, if they're in the UK, Australia or Germany (or whatever other country you're dealing with) the cards have to be for that country's iTunes domain. There was a massive stink with the latest Depeche Mode album which was to do with non-americans not getting a fair shake of the stick.

I'd stick with an Amazon.com giftcard and just let them buy regular music.

Or perhaps not. Perhaps the people who really know about this stuff are not online in the morning and perhaps they check new posts in entertainment before the main forum. If you care to look you'll see this post had no fewer views in the period than any other. Which suggests that most people who were online at the time simply don't know. Sorry I couldn't help, I did spend 10 minutes googling for the answer before I decided the best thing would be to put it in the correct forum where the specialists hang out.

If it's "too late now", perhaps you should have posted it as urgent and maybe even done it a few days earlier? Last posting date for UK was a week ago, btw.

I knew there was some fun and games going on with iTunes...

:)

Sorry KG, I wasn't here this morning and didn't notice this post until now.

If it's not too late you can go here http//shop.napster.co.uk/

and buy whatever you want, and have them shipped to the addresses you need and they will reach your giftees before Christmas.

However, I have to say I haven't done it with Napster but have done it with itunes for overseas without a problem.\

I also go to the amazon.co.uk site for UK gifts. Yes, you do pay more in pounds v. dollars but the shipping is far cheaper and in any case I usually use amazon for books that seem to work out cheaper in the UK anyway. They still must be VAT exempt.
Thank you for the info re iTunes etc, McZippy and VRB - I'm glad I asked before I launched forth with my credit card.

I usually buy gifts from Amazon or UK-based websites, but I had wondered if music sites were different. I also looked at Napster UK, dianey, but it wasn't too clear in the short time I had available..

Thanks for the advice, monster. Last posting dates do not concern me, btw.
