JOHN LENNON .

25 years ago today John Lennon was killed outside his home in new york.

With the taken of his life the world was robbed of one of the greatest musicans of all time,a poet , songwriter and a humaniterian ,

Hate does not enter into my world usually but if i wanted somebody to hate mark david chapman would forfill that need to the max .

The slaying of John Lennon was to me greater than any killing that has taken place in my lifetime , greater even then the killing of john f kennedy or martin luther king .....

John was a peacefull man, a man with tremedous wit, a caring/loving man, a artist deeply love by all whos talent was such a loss to the world and can never be replaced .

A beautifull life wasted .

He lives on in the words in his songs * imagine * give peace a chance *are in my mind two of his finest

Elvis being another one?

If I can avoid the crap that is Imagine or his awful christmas song today I'll be happy.
JohnA, there's a play by Ray Connolly called Unimaginable, he was the journalist who 'grew up' with Lennon here,

it's a good play, especially the reactions of the Americans and their narrow minded bigotry.
There's also the Wenner tapes at radio 4.

I wish he'd lived. he was caustic, sarcastic and very to the point. I would have loved to have seen him take the current administration apart. Especially after all those years of CIA and FBI spying on him.
Only the good die young. sad
Tom was born this day 17 years ago.

You are right, just look at Tupac and Biggie smalls

I was reading a newspaper article today on how people view Lennon. Interestingly people tend to blur out the early John (the drunk one who got into alot of fights) and the later John (the heroin addict who made crap records and deeply deeply hated Paul McCartney). I've always found the elevation of him a bit weird - yes The Beatles really are one of the greatest bands of all time, but to me Lennon was just another rich weirdo who liked the drugs. Which in itself isn't a bad thing but the idol worshipping I just don't get. Anyway, this is how I'll always remember Lennon-

“One night, after a few joints, a bit of LSD, we were sitting around at Kenwood playing tapes when John suddenly said ’Pete, I think I’m Jesus Christ.’ ’You what?’ I said. ’I’m Jesus Christ. I’m back again.’ ’Oh yeah,’ I said. ’What are you going to do about it?’ ’I’ve got to tell the world who I am.’ ’They’ll kill you.’ ’That can’t be helped,’ said John. ’How old was Jesus when they killed him?’ ’I reckon about 32.’ ’Then I’ve got at least four years to go,’ said John. ’First thing tomorrow morning, we’ll go into Apple and tell the others.’

"Next morning, Pete contacted Apple to arrange an emergency board meeting. All four Beatles turned up, plus Neil Aspinall (once the Beatles’ roadie, later Apple’s managing director) and Derek Taylor, their press officer. “Right,“ said John, sitting behind his desk. “I’ve something very important to tell you all. I am...Jesus Christ. I have come back again. This is my thing.“

"The Beatles looked rather stunned, but said nothing. “It was totally surreal,“ says Pete. “But nobody cross-examined him. No plans were made to announce the Messiah’s arrival. There was a bit of muttering, then silence, till somebody suggested the meeting was adjourned for lunch. “In the restaurant over lunch a man came up to John and said ’Really nice to meet you, how are you?’ ’Actually,’ said John, ’I’m Jesus Christ.’ ’Oh, really,’ said the man. ’Well, I liked your last record.’ “

Off his tits.
