If there is anything that has astonished me more during my short time in the US it is the degree to which nobody gives a crap about the torture issue. I am truly amazed. I really don't think Americans are aware of how horrified and angry Europeans are about the rendition issue. Even the very pro-US Tory Andrew Tyrie in the UK has expressed his disgust at Condi Rice's statement to Chancellor Merkel. I really think this issue is the most important in the terror war right now - the US is losing European support because it is clearly abusing it's power, torturing detainees, and then lying about it.

I am beyond furious about this. The very least we can hope for is that the McCain amendment gets passed and that the US media wakes the fuck up and starts asking the same sorts of questions European media already is.

This place preaches tolorance and right from wrong, ha!, the place makes me sick sometimes, their ignorance and arogance of world affairs is deplorable, as is the so called foreign affairs policy.
It's a big world, and when it turns to bite you in the ass, it's gonna hurt!

It is very disturbing. There is no or little voice in the world for the torturees. The really bad thing is they are just pulling up names and just getting straight to work no trial, no supervision of the torture, it is just wrong.

Who is going to step up and stop the torturing- the US is the world power.I do feel this is the start of something that could progress into something reminiscent of the jews plight in germany. The numbers may not match but it sure feels it is heading that way eventually torture will not be enough for the animals doing the dirty work. It is only time before it is announced that a few accidental deaths occured then it will be on- accidental deaths daily simply for what they believe in.

It shames me to be associated with this madness and as American as I may be I will never raise an american flag on my property no matter where I live simply because of the devils(G.W.) hell bent path of destruction. It is not going to stop just be done quieter and more efficient. Lets see what the headlines are in the months to come.

The Whitehouse has backed away from it's demands that the CIA be exempt from the new torture rules, and are, instead, trying to negotieta rules that wouild make prosecution of torturers more difficult.

I am sure that other governments balance the afront of having a citizen kidnapped against the maintenance of relations with the USA, and look the other way. That may be changing because their inaction and pubicity at home is giving them political trouble. You know that the Administration is getting the message when Condi goes on a tour of Europe just to try to quieten them down.
