question for you all here. I copied the recently released mr and mrs smith dvd, using dvdshrink, when the copying was finished onto the hard drive, I then popped in a blank dvd 4.7GB, only to be told there is not enough space?

I don't want to have to go out and buy a dual-layer disc, anyway round this?
That's illegal! grin

When you create the file that will copied, DVDSHRINK should give you options to remove chapters. So you can remove the extra languages, remove special features and remove previews and that may help. But of course it is illegal so this is all hypothetical

And what difference does that make? It's still illegal

I fail to see how this is jumping sown your throat, Hippo said the said with a smiley face.
Guess I owe you one then,

Bought for you...of course, then all you are doing is making a perfectly legal backup of your own disk, is'nt that so Anjit ;)
Anywhooo, yes remove the foreigh language stuff, extras and only keep the audio track you want, 5.1 or stereo.
Then it should fit, failing that dual layers burners are pretty cheap now, disks are pricey still, but you only use them to back up a DVD now and then, lol

errrrm no it's not. When you make a copy of something you bought, its different from downloading it from the internet. A chap in Norway fought a case like this couple of years ago, and won.

It's no different from tape dubbing from them days back, am sure you did it as well?

A very warm welcome from you I see. So it's a crime to make a backup copy of a family purchased dvd then? Vapochilled seems to understand what am talking about.

It's legal to make a copy for your own use of a disc that you own. I copy CDs so I have a copy in my car, but the original is still in my collection indoors. On the odd occasion I have loaned one to a daughter, but that was illegal because I didn't give her both copies.
Hope marmitemaniac read what the last poster had to say. I never once said I downloaded anything, am making a copy of a legit purchased dvd.

Taken from the text . . .

Last week, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, Judge Susan Illston ruled that consumers do not have the right to make backup copies of the DVD discs they purchase. The case was brought by a Missouri company, 321 Studios, which makes a program called DVD X Copy. 321 Studios had hoped to establish the concept of consumer fair use in the digital age, so it picked a courtroom fight with the major motion picture studios.

The studios won.
And you missed my point about you earlier slur of "Am sure you did it to"
You know me that well do you?
