Dont know if its our house sticks out as a sure sell ,or since the *dont call law *went into effect its more of a common accurance .

But I have been having a tremendous amount of door to door salemen trying to wear out our front door welcome mat -)

NEVER had this problem in any home i lived in before just one or two maybe and of course the annual * JW *

in the last several weeks have had at least 6 times the annoying habit of kids knocking at the door and asking for me to buy various sundry items from chocolate to cookee mix , to help them buy musical instruments of sports equipment for extra corriculer activities .

I pay my school taxes what do the perants want for me to pay for there college to ????

I paid for my own kids equipment when they took part in extra school activities

Not only them but i have had to bother with slick willys trying to sell a SPECIAL monthyl newpaper subsciption *no thanks *

A sweaty clown trying to get me to change my directv for cable *got to be kidding *

A carpet cleaning company * do my own *

A lawn care technican * i have a lawn mower *

And twice once monday and again today differant folks each time , selling guess what F**King kirby vacumm cleaners .

to get some peace and quiet im thinking of making a large sign to hang on the door saying NO SALEMAN TRESPASSING but i bet they would,nt read that .

thats 6 in about 3 weeks not counting the kids ....

Does anybody else get this continuing interruption of there day by unwanted and unasked for morons trying to sell you something you dont want ????

To be fair, it is an American tradition for kids to raise money this way, you were the odd man out by buying the yourself (we did it also).

I think it is part of the training for life in a capitalist society. My daughters hated selling Girl Scout cookies.
I don't allow my children to participate in door-to-door fundraisers and I only occasionally buy from others; I prefer to make a cash donation to the organisations of my choice.

Rarely do people other than kids we know go door-to-door around here selling anything.
Don't get people door to door here.
It wouldn't be worth their while for 6 houses a mile down a dirt road.

The only fundraisers I allwoed my kids to do was the candy sales as $1 isn't a huge output for anyone.
The Xmas paper, magazines and candle sales were always a no-no as there was never anything under $6.

A $1 accasionaly for a kids venture i wouldnt mind im not mean ;-)

And last year the same kids i believe had candy bars for that amount , these kids had a kind of catalogue and the items cookies ,boxed candy etc started at $10.99 they where i think all from the same schools *its a small town *and as you should treat all the kids fairly it would have cost me 6x $10.99 = $ 65.94 over a 3 week period far to much for kids who arnt mine .

I find one of these works wonders.
I find I have a lot less of these unwanted door knockers since I moved to an apartment building...with a locked gate.

some dick selling you unwanted crap at your front door....annoying

high security gate with electronic pass code...priceless smile

One of the advantages of apartment living along with no grass to mow

I don't carry any cash, out or at home so they are really wasting their time coming around my house.

The no-cash system doubles up by suggesting to people that you are in fact very tight. wink
Who knows? I've had my doorbell disconnected for a month or so now and haven't missed it. Anybody coming to our house I already know in advance of their arrival or, if they're dropping Lucy off/picking up their own kid simply honks their horn outside my house.

That's one of the few things I like about American cultural practices. It seems quite acceptable when you are going out on a date to honk your horn to let the bird know you're there. Saves all that meeting their annoying parents and trying to make small talk, especially if you've just had a spliff on the way over.

If you moved up here, where its -12'C this morning, you wouldn't have to worry about door-to-door anything, apart from ice ;)
