I have slaved. I have made a cranberry sauce, a bread sauce, stuffing in a dish, haven't put it in the bird since the salmonella outbreak of whenever it was, prepared some of the veggies, peeled the sprouts and put crosses on their bottoms,
trimmed the green beans, put the champagne in the fridge, cleaned the table and oiled it, got the candles out and the nice glassware and generally done everything you can. All sauces and such made with a low glycemic index for "I think I might becoming diabetic people" and spiced up with liberal amounts of hard liquor.
Now I just have to get up and put the turkey in the oven, boil a sweet potato and slice it with anjou pears and bake it in gingered butter, and reheat or roast other veggies.
I am a hero and what's more, I enjoyed every minute of it.
lol lol lol lol
*applause* Sounds mouth watering!
Well done Annie!!! What's this about putting crosses on the bottoms of the sprouts? I've never done that.
I have painted a large celing today with Extra Drippy Brand paint. So I feel like a hero too. D Luckily we're going out tomorrow.
I'm queen of nothing. (
I have utterly failed in my task of getting the house even halfway presentable. Even if I spend all night cleaning and tidying, I'd still have a load of unassorted crap hastily bunged in boxes.....
But the turkey is defrosted! (we're not eating until Friday, though, so I may be a little previous on that one)
Also disappointed that manc and emellbee are in the process of getting snowed in so can't join us as planned (
Ho hum. Still, we'll have a great time with Ben et al ....if they actually make it through the snow o They should be somewhere in PA right now.
On the + side, there's plenty of alcohol, Manc and Em might make it over on Sunday and the snow is the right type for snowmen. D (did I mention the alcohol?)
Well done Annie and Di!
Dianey you put crosses with a knife on the bottom of sprout so they cook better and quicker and all that. They're gonna be roasted anyway so i don't know why i bothered.
Lucky you going out, hope it's not with your FiL. If so take alcohol. wink

Nice to see others are flying the flag. I shall raise my G&T to you all. Did you realise the open all hours for pubs has just come in? Don't try calling home if your rellies are pub people. There's lotsa parties.
Wow, Annie, you've been busy! Congratulations! smile
With hubby away in Iraq this year ( sad ), my son and I will be having a quiet Thanksgiving dinner at home. We were invited to dinner by one of my friends but, although the invitation was kind and much appreciated, we've decided we'll stay home, eat till we can't move, and squabble about what to watch on tv/DVD. Much like any other day, really. mrgreen

Sprouts should be cut in half, browned in butter or bacon fat, and then sauteed in a minimal amount of chicken stock for 10 minutes. grin
I suppose they could be browned in olive oil roll

Quick tip.........you can always utilize those old Budweiser boxes that just hang about the place...
Hope you all have a great time.
Annie, missed out on FIL this Thanksgiving and Christmas due to the fact I'm "working" but we're due a trip sometime in spring. He's like Bill O'Reilly but older and goatier, if you can imagine.

Ugh. Sprouts should be young, tender and minimally steamed.

Well shit yeah...no wait, they're already full.... ...of unassorted crap....
....but I know! what about all the new plastic tubs I optimistically bought on Saaturday for the sorted crap ...I can just put mixed crap in them and who's to know?!
Just spent the last two hours doing that, have now steam-vacced landing and now deem it fit for an airbed for a dust-allergy person!
I have decided that I'm not crap at housework, I'm differently prioritized. I started the clearing job weeks ago which is way beyond early for me, and was very proud of myself for doing so..... ...but then I got side-tracked. ....At least Hebe's room is newly painted and I 've baked some nice stuff and the new laptop for the school PTO is all set up.........
Re sprouts, I hate em, undergrown cabbages is what i think, but he adores them so i do them whatever way he likes. At the moment it's roasted with OO. Last year it was a little garlic and butter and some nut or other.
Me i think of them and Victoria Wood comes to mind, ........Put your sprouts on in November..........they're the kind I remember and the reason I don't eat them anymore.
lol
Happy thanksgiving everyone
Bah, proper cranberry sauce comes in a can and should have a legible date you can read on the bottom. And I like green bean casserole too, and stove-top stuffing.
